DATE:    June 18, 2006

TIME:     Late afternoon

LOCATION:   Hwy. 52, between Ellijay & Chatsworth, Northern GA

TERRAIN:    Fairly level, pine forest

OBSERVED:    My friend and I were vacationing in Northern GA. We were traveling West on SR52 in Northern GA. About 50 feet in front of us was a large black cat sauntering across the hwy. Now by large black cat, I do not mean an oversized domestic cat. This was a huge cat with a fat black tail that went to the ground and then curled up on the end. He was slowly walking across the road. He didn't act frightened or apprehensive in any way. He seemed to be comfortable in his environment. He went into the forest on the North side of the highway, which was the side we were traveling on. As we got to the spot where he entered the forest, we slowed down and my friend saw him again, moseying through the trees. We described it to each other as a black panther. It was one of those occasions where you know you saw it, but you can't believe you saw it. We tried to rationalize it, but couldn't. It was definitely a black panther and was certainly out of his natural habitat.

Activities of Witness:   Traveling.

Description of Creature:  Large black cat, short haired, long thick tail that reached the ground and then curled upward.
