Report
Received From: The GCBRO Online
Report Submission Form.
DATE:
1974-1976
TIME:
Afternoon
LOCATION:
Multnomah County, Oregon
TERRAIN:
Wooded, it was mostly wooded, but viewed from the street
OBSERVED:
I was about 10-12 years old, there were myself and three other friends.
We were walking up the street, when one of us noticed a large bird. I would
guess the wingspan was about 20 feet or so. Back then I thought it was
alot bigger. It was medium brown in color. Had webbed feet, long tail ,
webbed wings. I would guess it's beak (or mouth) was about 2 1/2 -3 feet
long. It didn't appear to have any feathers on it. looked kind of leathery.
It appeared to be a pterodactyl, from what I had seen in books. When it
was flying around, it had what appeared to be a large snake or something
in it's mouth. It was definitely flying north. towards Washington. We were
all scared it might come back and get us, so we all ran to my house. We
told my Mom, and she thought we were nuts. So we didn't tell alot of other
people after that.
Activities of Witness:
We were walking up the street playing.
Description of Creature:
The wingspan was about 20 feet or so. Back then I thought it was alot bigger.
It was medium brown in color. Had webbed feet, long tail , webbed wings.
I would guess it's beak (or mouth) was about 2 1/2 -3 feet long. It didn't
appear to have any feathers on it. looked kind of leathery.
Other Notes: After a few years, we started hearing about more people who had seen a pterodactyl. One of them was a friend of my moms. After that she believed us. Her friends mother who had to be in her late 40's had found one in her back yard. She said it looked sick. She didn't want to take a picture of it, or call anyone, for fear they would capture and probably harm the creature. She and her daughter just watched it for a couple days until it flew away again. ( I wish she would have taken a picture at least)
The other person I know who saw one was a couple years older than me, but she saw hers flying over her parents house and I was told it defecated in the back of her Dad's pickup truck. She said it actually made the truck shake when it let go. Her parents told her she was crazy and that what ever that was in the truck must have fallen from an airplane.
Both of these were also in the 70's.
The only thing I can think of, and maybe a researcher can look into it is...
I believe that these creatures hibernate for long periods of time, and maybe only come out when the weather is just right. The sightings I have read about and others I have heard about (on the radio like the Art Bell show) seem to be every 20 years or so. And the animals all seem to be heading north??? maybe to Canada or Alaska?
I sure would like to see another
one now that I am old enough to describe it better.
Additional Notes and or Follow up Comments: Upon contact the witness had no additional information to add to this report.
