RECEIVED FROM:    G.C.B.R.O. Online Submission Form

DATE:        Several years ago

TIME:

LOCATION:     Giles County, near Perisburg, Virginia
Just off of Route 460, near the West Virginia border.

TERRAIN:   Wooded

OBSERVED:    The alleged witness that I talked too told me a very strange story. I was not trying to find out about anything odd or paranormal.

During a conversation regarding the possible presence of mountain lions in Southwest Virginia, a guy I was talking to mentioned that several years ago, he encountered what he said was an enormous black panther. The animal was seen behind a large building, digging in a trash can. The animal was large, larger than a mountain lion. It was jet black and looked very muscular. The witness watched the animal as it knocked over trash cans and picked through the garabge, apparently trying to find something to eat. Exact sized estimates were not given, other than the animal was very large.

ACTIVITIES OF WITNESSES:  The witness saw the animal run behind a building. He was not sure what it was so he parked his vehicle, got out of it (he claims he was driving at the time) and walked around the building. What he saw frightened him, and he quickly walked back to his car and drove away.

DESCRIPTION OF CREATURE:   The animal was large, larger than a mountain lion. It was jet black and looked very muscular.

OTHER NOTES:  The witness I talked to was very insistant in saying that black panthers are common in the area, but very secretive. Despite arguments from myself and another individaul, he was sure that big black cats that are different from pumas or mountain lions are found in the area.
