LOCATION:
Uintah County, Utah
TERRAIN:
Mountains, rough terrain
OBSERVED:
6 adults and 3 kids camping far back in hills. Had heard things outside
of tent around dinner time. It was raining off and on through out weekend.
Did not pay much attention to the noises. Thought to be deer and squirrels
out playing. After rain stopped and dinner was over, went out and started
fire. Noticed weird smell that was not in air before. Thought to be just
some of the cattle on the other side of mountain that was being corralled,
so they could be brought out of the mountains for the winter. Kids went
across the road and into a lightly wooded area exploring. Kids age 13,
10, and 9 all said that they had found some tracks but the adults did not
go looking. Busy with getting things tied down for the night. Everyone
but my brother-in-law that was tending the fire, my husband and I went
to our tent to get ready for bed. Had been in bed about 5 minutes and heard
a high pitched howling coming from behind the tent up the hill. Heard
branches breaking and some kind of movement behind the tent. A few minutes
passed and another howl. The same as the one before. My brother-in-law
came in and stated that the fire was out and he was going to bed after
the howling. My husband slept with his 44 gun under his pillow that night.
