LOCATION:   Overton County, Tennessee.
 

TERRAIN:       Pine and cedar thickets,  close to a small, spring
                 fed creek
 

OBSERVED:As told to Mary Green:
While blackberry picking with an aunt (who was around 16 at the time), C. who was around 10, had filled their bucket with blackberries.  The Aunt was doing most of the picking.  The bucket held nearly two gallons of berries.  The two had started home and  were still quite a distance away from the house.  They were walking down a well worn path used by the cows and also used to access the back part of the farm by tractor or truck.

When the girls reached a pine thicket which had many cedars and pine trees around, and where the branches hung lowest to the ground, they began to hear the sounds of a large, heavy animalfollowing behind them, but over to one side.  It unnerved C, but didn't seem to be frightening the Aunt, or if it had, the Aunt was not showing it.

Finally, C. questioned her Aunt B. about it because it was beginning to frighten her very much.  Aunt B. told her that it was probably one of the cows and not to worry anymore about it.  It was a fact that C.'s Aunt B. knew from experience that the cows shaded there sometimes during the hot summer days.  The further they walked, the closer the sounds seemed behind them, until they couldn't ignore what it was any longer, but turned around to make sure it was only a cow.

Totally unexpected, they saw standing (an estimated 12-15 feet directly behind them) a tall, long armed, hairy man, or so they thought.  The features of “its” face, C. said, are permanently and photographically etched into her mind to this day.  She remembers the eyes most of all, and for some reason, felt like her eyes were glued to the creatures eyes.

She reports the eyes were big and dark brown in color.  C. said the man-like being also seemed surprised when they turned around.  At the moment the girls first saw "it" they screamed out loud, but then stopped short and just stared awestruck back at the “hairy man”.   C. reports that the body hair was short, no more than one to two inches long, and that there didn't appear to be any hair at all on its face.  The mouth was long and large, the nose more human than gorilla shaped.  It seemed very, very tall to them, at least seven to eight feet as far as she can determine now that she's older.

C. said that the hair on the top of its head was quite long, smooth and shiny in the sunlight.  She said they stared at each other for long, intense moments, but realize now it was only a few seconds.  Then the creature gave them a threatening look, which started them screaming once more.  The aunt dropped the bucket of berries and grabbed C.'s hand, screaming for her to run as fast as she could.

They ran together still clinging to each others hands, too afraid to look behind them.  C. remembers being too terrified to scream at this time.  When their hands broke free, C. slowed to retake her Aunts hand, but was shook off and her Aunt told her as they ran to go ahead of her and not to wait on her.  C. began to cry then, not wanting to leave her Aunt behind, for they were very close to each other, having been together a lot while growing up, but C. took her Aunts advice and ran as fast as she could.

It turned out that C. didn't need to worry after all, because her Aunt B. had managed to stay close on her heels anyway.  As they neared the house they began screaming hysterically and all in the house came out onto the back porch.  This included her grandmother, grandfather, and C. thinks her Uncle was there also but doesn't remember for sure on that part.

Her grandfather, once they'd calmed the girls down enough, grabbed his gun and left to see what had scared them sobadly, and C. thinks her Uncle went with his Father.  The grandmother told them not to ever talk about it again, that it was probably only a bear, while the men were gone to look.  C. thinks this was very strange also now that she is older, on why her grandmother insisted vehemently that they had not seen anything but a bear and to be sure and NEVER tell anyone else about it.

The men returned with the bucket after a while and reported the berries were gone, maybe a few were left scattered on the ground.  The men did not see or find anything else at all or if they had, they did not tell the girls about it.
 

Description of Creature:  A tall, long armed, hairy man.  Eyes were big and dark brown in color.  The body hair was short, no more than one to two inches long, and there didn't appear to be any hair at all on "its" face.  The mouth was long and large, the nose more human than gorilla shaped.  It seemed very, very tall to them, at least seven to eight feet .
 

Other Notes:   The witnesses had been picking blackberries at the back of the family farm for around two hours. There have been four other reports since this one, and one earlier but many years ago.
