LOCATION:    Tennessee, Macon County, Lafayette, TN (outskirts) Hwy. 52
 
 

TERRAIN:   Wooded area, down a sloping hill, which as stated at that time was full of dense tall briars and weeds.  Woods extending for miles on the front and back side of the property, mountainous terrain, caves nearby.
 
 

OBSERVED:  Witnesses sighting report sent to Mary Green follows:

Dear Mrs. Green,

         I’ll just tell you my story and let you do whatever you need to with it.  I’m not too
sure that it will be of any significance, but here it goes.

         It was the summer after my kindergarten year (1983 or 84).  I was at my grandmothers being babysitted and I got bored, so to pass the time I decided to take a walk in the woods which I always did in my spare time.  Well, I took off.  There is a very large patch of wooded area that begins behind my grandmother’s house.  This Holler, as I call them, goes from there for miles and miles all the way up into Kentucky without breaking up.  Some of these woods are so thick that it seems that you could very well be the first person in history to be there.  It’s abundant with wildlife, food, caves, water, and anything that an animal would need to live a life of seclusion.  But anyway, there I was walking down to where these woods started.  I had been there enough that I had worn a trail into them that proceeded down an estimated 45 degree slope and into some very dense and tall briars and weeds.  As I came to the crest of the hill and took one step downward, I for some reason looked ahead and saw about 30 feet away at the bottom of the hill this...thing.  I froze.  It seemed as if time was at a stand still.  We met eyes and then I took off running and screaming as hard as I could.  After running about 50 feet away and into a clearing, I looked backed and it was standing at the top of the hill staring at me.  We met eyes again and I just started sprinting toward my  Grandmother’s.

After making it back, I jumped into my grandpa’s lap and told him my entire and evidently hilarious story.  He said that I just imagined it and laughed it off.  With this kind of evidence of humiliation, I never told anyone except my best of friends.  but now it feels so good to finally find someone who actually believes. Even though I was only 6 years of
age, I did not imagine what I saw that day.  I had never heard of a bigfoot until years later, and how am I supposed to imagine that I saw something that I had never even heard of much less seen.

          Now to answer your questions.  I don’t recall smelling anything out of the ordinary, it always smells bad around there.  He was approximately 8 feet or taller.  He was solid black except for a white streak running down the right side of his head and he had green eyes (described later as vivid green).  I don’t remember seeing any teeth, claws, or anything threatening about him.  I believe he just chased me out of curiosity and not out of rage.  If he wanted to hurt me, the Lord knows that he could have caught me easily. Also, I didn’t here anything either, he moved very swiftly.  There was, however, evidence.  When I saw him, he was standing between two trees and the next day there
was a lot of bark ripped off of them about ten feet up.  There were no foot prints or any other type of evidence though.  I would probably have put this all behind me several years ago if I could, but each year, I have reoccurring nightmares about this thing and it’s driving me to learn more about this amazing creature.  If you ever need any help in trying
to find him or whatever you do concerning this matter, please feel free to ask me for help.  I could very easily be talked into it.  Also, if you would like to see the area where I saw him, it can also be arranged.  Thank you very much for listening to my story.  I swear that everything that I have told you is of fact and that my imagination did not conjure up

Additional Information:  Upon investigation at the site, this is some additions to his story.
 
1.  “Didn’t notice whether it had long hair or not, but the pictures I have seen, he was big and husky--just real big.  It was not huge, but it was stocky”.  Also stated:  “He was not as heavy as the Northwestern ones, but much leaner.”

2.  Upon J.’s Uncle standing between the two trees where it had stood and with the aid of T. F., it was judged to be about 7 foot tall.

3.  There had been a gutted deer carcass laying to the right of these trees, several yards away from where the bigfoot stood, for about a week.

4.  It was black like a skunk and the white streak on the side of its head reminded him very much of the skunks coloring.

Other Notes:     There had been earlier sightings of tracks in a field nearby in the 1950’s which was investigated by some farmers living there at the time.
