DATE:    This incident happened in 1971, very late in the evening, witnesses stated dusky/dark time of the evening.
 

LOCATION:    :   Macon County, Tennessee,  Close to Bugtussel, Tennessee , in a V-shaped valley.

TERRAIN:   Many V shaped valleys, little known area to the general population nearby.  Reported to be heavily wooded with no other houses for a few miles around.
 

OBSERVED:   D. M. and his cousin, J. D., were playing about l/6 mile from their Grandmothers house along the road way below their house.  They were throwing rocks over a fence along this road and down into a creek further below.  From there, the land curved sharply upwards once more.  The house faced directly across to the other
side of the valley.  They were playing there as their grandmother and grandfather and uncle, P. D., sat on the porch above them.  It was already getting dark, as he stated “dusky dark” and they were throwing as many heavy rocks into the creek as quickly and as fast as they could.  They heard heavy footsteps approaching from on the other side of
the creek, and a large, hairy creature ran towards them but did not go across the creek.  It was hunched over slightly, with its arms frequently touching the ground, but never going down on all fours. D. M. was 14 at the time, but he and his cousin were too frightened to stay around to see what it would do.  It was reported to be black in color and at least 7 feet tall.  They ran to the house and reported what had happened. D. then  remembers listening then to many other sighting reports his grandparents told that night about how they too had often seen  a similar creature while they sat on the porch in the late evening.  They would watch as it prowled around in the creek below them.
 

Description of Creature:    It was reported to be black in color, hairy and at least 7 feet tall.
 

Other Notes:   Over the next few months, the witness reported watching this same creature across the valley as it watched him in return at his grandparents house,  on several occasions, but usually just before dark. He said that the valley was extremely V shaped and it was surprisingly very few feet across to the other side.  D.'s grandparents told him of many other sightings near the creek below the front of their house.
