REPORT RECEIVED From: The Field Research Notes of Bobby Hamilton
DATE:
1983
TIME:
Mid Afternoon
LOCATION:
Tyler County, Texas
TERRAIN:
Wooded
OBSERVED: I was visiting some of the people where I do my banking and had at the request of the Vice President of the bank, taken some of my plaster castings up there to show them what I had found, while out doing my field investigations.
After everybody there had seen the castings, one of the ladies there told me of a bear she had seen back in 1983. I knew her younger sister and this incident involved both of them.
Anyway, she said they were walking down some trails through the woods near their home, and off to the side of the trail a Bear was standing there behind a tree with it's hand holding down a tree limb looking at them. After staring at this thing for a few seconds, she told her little sister to turn around and walk as fast as she could back towards the house.
My immediate comment was, "Describe this Bear"?
She said it was standing upright, and had its hand out in front of its face holding down a branch and was watching them. And it was covered in light brown hair.
I asked "How tall as it"?
She said it was probably around 7-8 foot or so. She wasn't exactly sure, but it was really taller than a normal man, alot taller.
I asked her to "tell me how the bear was standing and this hand it was using to hold down the limb to look at them"?
She said that it was "standing upright on it's hind legs and it had its hand outstretched holding down the limb".
I then said "it's hand"?
She replied "Well, yeah I guess that's what you call it".
I then told her "This is interesting and more so since I have never heard of a bear to stand upright and hold down a limb with its hand to look at anything. I know they can get on their hind legs and walk awkwardly for short distances on their hind legs and all, but to be standing there upright like that and using its hand instead of its paw to hold down a limb sounds like it wasn't a bear to me"!
She then looked at me funny and said "You don't think it was one of those Bigfoot things do you"?
My response was "Hey, I didn't see it you did, I just find it odd what you just told me, and it doesn't sound like any bear I ever heard of"!
She responded "Well I said bear because that is all it could have been, or all I could think of at the time. I had never heard about Bigfoot until years later, so I just assumed it was a bear, sine it was big and covered in hair and that is all I could think of that it could have been".
I asked if there had been any other
bear sightings around there and she said none that she knew of.
