Reported by: Al Hicks and Russell Harris

Report Received From: The field notes of GCBRO Field Researchers Al Hicks and Russell Harris

DATE:    January 31, 2004

TIME:     Daytime from Morning till Early Evening

LOCATION:   Cherokee County, Texas

TERRAIN:    Wooded

OBSERVED:    We began the day by meeting in XXXX, while I finished my coffee we got reacquainted and I explained the previous visits that I had made to this area, and we reviewed the reports that had come from this area as well.

After awhile, we headed up to XXXX's lease and were met by XXXX and his girlfriend, XXXX.
We all piled into XXXX's truck and headed over to the scene of an old report, and began looking around.

As we were headed out of the park, Russell noticed some impressions along the side of the road, in
the drainage ditch.  At first glance, these impressions appeared to be caused by water runoff, however, they were uniform in their distance from each other.  As we followed them, we came to a fence line, that divided the forest from an open field.  We noted that the trail seemed to follow the barbed wire fence up to a thicket behind some buildings at the front of the pasture.
The fence had been broken and repaired several times.  There was no livestock, or any evidence of livestock in the open field.  The property had been unoccupied for several years.

Additionally, there was a bank of Boxwood bushes along the fence and the trail.  It was interesting to note, that at heights ranging from 4 feet above the ground, to 6 feet, the ends of these had been broken over, stripped of leaves, and often twisted.
Russell and I were unable to determine the cause for this.  Especially as, the tops of these bushes were
well beyond the reach of browsing deer. We then adjourned back to the lease.  XXXX allowed Russell and I the use of his two four wheelers, so we went back to the creek bed where I had found
some interesting things on previous visits.

The above picture is of what appears to be an old 'shelter'.  I stand 5 feet 8 inches tall, and add four inches for my hat.  Obviously it is rather large and well constructed.  The largest limb appears to have fallen of it's own accord, and yet did not crush the structure.  We found this to be a rather interesting site, even though it did not to appear to have been used for a very long time.

Nearby, I would guess about 25 yards or so, we found a tree bent over at the base.  We took several photos of it, and I would encourage you to look closely at the the close up.  There appears to be indentations where it looks like fingers wrapped around the trunk and tremendous pressure left the
marks.  The extra photo shows the diameter of the still green and alive tree.

We looked around some more, and Russell tried some tree knocking.  There was no response, yet both of us noticed that the forest was silent.  I tried a few notes on my wounded rabbit call, and still no response, although we both heard some heavy noise back in the woods.

After awhile, we returned to the camp. XXXX and XXXX had been filling deer feeders and trimming a little brush in another area of the lease while we were looking around.  They reported that XXXX had found a strange track.  So we went to have a look.  The following photo's are what we found.

After taking the photos, Russell went off to the southwest, looking around, and I moved straight south to a creek.  As I looked around, I noticed that the woods got very quiet, except for the sound of the water trickling in the creek.  When I got to the point where I was standing at the edge of the creek, I heard a very distinct, low pitch growl.  This was the same type of growl that I have heard before.  In fact, it was essentially the same as those that I experienced at Monster Central.

I thought it came from a bank of evergreen bushes that were about thirty yards across the creek and
uphill from where I was.  I alerted Russell who joined me.  We crossed the creek and worked our way uphill to the area where I thought the sound had come from.  Although the forest was very, very quiet, we heard and saw nothing else.  As a matter of note, there did appear to be a possible bedding area just below the crest of the hill.  This may require some follow up at another time.

As the day was fading, Russell and I took a ride to the area around where he lives and discussed the geography, and possible future plans for further activities in this area.
