TIME:
around 8:15pm/ just after dusk
LOCATION:
Shelby County, Tennessee
TERRAIN:
Somewhat wooded
OBSERVED:
I was fishing at a pond behind our house and my fiancé went to the
house to check on our children . My 15 year old was watching our one year
old. It was just after dusk and I was listening for our bells that were
on our poles to jingle and it was unusually quiet for a summer night. When
I heard the howl unlike anything I have ever heard before. It sounded like
it was on the other side of the tree line from the pond or it could have
been just on the other side of xxxxxx road. I noticed the howl then dogs
started barking and coyotes joined in and I was too scared to take the
time to gather my fishing gear I just walked at a fast pace up the hill
to the house . I did not notice any odor or running sounds but I did have
the feeling after that and ever since that I am being watched. I worked
with veterinarians for nine years and have been around all types of animals
and raised some very unusual animals including horses and cows but I have
never heard anything like the sound I heard that night.
Activities of Witness:
Fishing at a pond behind house.
Description of Creature:
Nothing was seen only heard. It was a howl like no other that I have ever
heard and is very hard to describe. It came from something very large .
It was quiet, then came the howl but not a bear, then local dogs started
barking and coyotes started to join in . The sound lasted about 5 to 7
seconds.
Other Notes:
This past week I had visited my fiancé's brother and sister in-law
and I was headed out to my truck to start it up before I loaded the baby
in it. I walked out of the carport just around the corner of the house
and to my right I heard something that sounded like someone running just
20 feet away from me . I ran back into the house and told them and went
to investigate with a flashlight but saw nothing. We decided to blame it
on deer in the area but I had a feeling it was something more than deer
by the way it make a stick snap as it was running away but then again I
never really saw anything I only heard it. I mentioned to my fiancé's
brother about the first incident and he told me that he has heard that
too. The hair on the back of my neck stood up.
