REPORT RECEIVED: From the files of Mary Green

TIME:  Around 10:00 P.M.

LOCATION:  On the road from Harriman, TN to Oakdale, TN, Morgan County near Roane County Line

TERRAIN:  Hilly, partially Wooded
 

OBSERVED:   I want to relate somthing that happened to me when I was a boy maybe 15 or 16. I'm 43 now and it was a long time ago, but clear as a bell in my memory. We lived in a rural sub-division in east Tn, near Harriman, on the road from Harriman to Oakdale. There was maybe 12 houses stuck up on top of this hill, and they where simple ranchers, not fancy homes. Anyway, it was late one night, maybe 10 o'clock. I had to go really bad and my sister was in the bathroom. I couldn't hold it any longer so I went outside behind the house.

It's very dark back there, full of pines, except where we played basketball.   About 100 feet behind the house was a 55 gallon drum that we burned our trash in. So I'm doing my business, and I hear something prowling around the garbage can. I figure it's Laddie, our neighbors big dog. So I yell at him to get out of there. But all I heard was the deepest growl, rumble, I ever heard in my life. I knew it wasn't Laddie, he would have ran from me, plus this thing sounded like it was the size of a train car. But it had to be a really big dog, other than Laddie, even though
it was huge sounding. What else could it be. There was a little light shining through the sink window, mom was ironing in the kitchen. I found a brick at the back wall, broken in half. So I picked up one half and yelled again, and got another really angry, sinister growl. God I thought, what is that. So I threw the brick in the general direction of the sound and garbage can. It's
pitch dark  back there under the pines, especially where the garbage can was.
 

I missed it whatever it was because I heard the brick tumble through the
weeds, and tumble on over the hill. But I was really ticking this thing off,
whatever it was. It growled and rumbled even deeper, it was pissed! So I'm a
little scared now, but kinda angry too cause if it's a dog, it should run. So
I pick up the other half of the brick and walk towards the garbage can, maybe
30 feet or so, and let fly with the brick, and I hit because I heard the thud
of it hitting the thing. Mary that damn thing came up from that garbage can
in an absolute rage, running right at me growling like nothing on this earth,
I mean I had never heard anything like this, even on tv or in the movies.

I know I got to run cause it's coming fast and it sounds huge. I still couldn't
see it, but I wanted to before I had to run. So I'm standing there in ready
position to run my ass off when I had to, thinking what in the world is this
thing, I want to see  it, if I can just wait a little longer maybe it will (be) in
the light enough to see then I'll run. But it was time to get the hell out of
there! So I take off for the carport as fast as my legs will go, and it's
gaining on me like crazy.

When I hit the carport, and turned into the kitchen  door, I never even turned the doorknob, I just palmed it with both hands at full speed and knocked it open. I swear when I got to the carport it must not have been more than 5 feet behind me. This is what I remember most, how angry
it was, how fast it gained on me and the sound of it's feet hitting that hard, dry summer ground, just thud, thud, thud, thud, like it was two legged, not a ploppity plopp, like four feet. When it was real close to catching me, and it was still raging like a mad bull, it's voice sounded higher than my shoulders. So I knocked open the door, and poor mom threw that iron straight up in the air and screamed at the top of her lungs. I just went right on by , down the hallway. You can think unbelieveably fast when adreniline is flowing I guess. I remember thinking as I ran by mom, this thing is going to kill me right in front of my family, or kill mom, it was that close. But it stopped
before it got to the door, and either turned back to the garbage can, or went on by to somewhere else. I went in the bedroom and looked through the window with the light off to see if I could see something, towards the back yard. Nothing, just to dark. Looked for tracks the next day , but nothing , just garbage scattered about, and the can was still standing up.

Here's something I didn't know for a while, maybe a month later , we were talking out on the
carport at moms, and my sister was over , she lived next door, maybe 50 feet
from her house to our carport. Anyway she had the Harriman utility board to
put a security light on the pole between our houses, I can remember my  dog
noticing it and running around the pole barking up at it. He must of thought
it  was a big cat or something hanging onto the pole, I laughed at his stupid
antics, he was funny. So the conversation got off on why she had it put up.
 

Her bedroom window faced our carport, she would look out to see mom was in
the kitchen in the mornings and come over and have coffee in the mornings
before they went their seperate ways to work. Just chat a while. So she is
looking out her bedroom window , with the light off, her husband was still in
bed, and she said she could see something that looked big and shaggy walking
around our garbage can in the early light, just a shape, but it was shaggy,
and it looked two legged. But she just shook her head and chalked it up to
whatever, imagination or something, it was just barely light. Mom wasn't in
the kitchen yet, so she looked again in a few minutes, face up to the glass,
and she said whatever it was, was looking in her window, not a clear face,
but something she could sense as much as see. So she let out a scream and
poor XXXXX comes tearing out of bed, yelling what is it! So she says she saw
some kind of thing at the window.

He goes outside with a 25 caliber pistol, and looks around, sees nothing and tells her she was imagining it. But at any rate , she had the light put up. No other occurances at all after that. But
it sure sticks in your mind. If I had of stayed long enough to see it, it
would have caught me or I would have passed out from fright. Anyway, I just
wanted to tell you that story. Haven't had any other encounters at all.
