TIME:    Late night, it was really hot out, probably in August
 

LOCATION:   Jackson County, Tennessee
 

TERRAIN:     Mountainous, wooded, near Cumberland River
 
 

OBSERVED:      I can remember this happening very well.  For many weeks there was some creature screaming at night, lasting from midnight until early morning hours.  I can remember getting up early in the morning and it would sometimes still be screaming off and on.  All the  men on our mountain were up in arms (so to speak) and wondering what it was that was making those awful screaming sounds.  There were many chickens going missing.  On the week before they, the neighbor men, decided to try and find this creature and do something about it because there was a very large cow found dead.  It's head had been twisted off, and something had ripped open its stomach and pulled out its internal organs.  It seemed to have eaten most of the internal organs but did not eat any of the other meat on the cow.

Of course, this disturbed the men on the mountain even more.  So one night about a week after finding the cow, six men decided to go out that night and kill it as it was down by the creek screaming again.  They did not know what they would find.  My grandfather headed up the party and his brother went too.  Three other men went along too.  As they got down to the creek, they saw what was making the screaming noises.  It was very tall, looked like a very tall, muscular man about 7 foot tall.  I don't remember why, but for some reason they had been calling it a screaming woman and thought that it was a female.  No one saw it that night enough to tell.  They could not even tell if it was hairy, it just looked like a giant man standing there in the creek screaming at them.

One of the men shot it and thought that he might have hit it. The thing screamed extremely loud right after he shot it.  It JUMPED straight up and grabbed a hold of a large tree branch with its back to them and then it suddenly began swinging from tree to tree until it was out of sight, screaming at the top of its lungs, whatever it was.  They could hear it finally drop from the trees and a loud thump as it hit the ground.  They ran after it and tried to find it, hoping they had killed it, but they never found any trace of it.

For at least three years they never heard the screams again and no one missed any chickens or saw anymore of its tracks.  Then it seemed to come back and got a few chickens from this one neighbor.  They found another huge bull dead.  It's neck had been broken.  It's stomach area was also ripped open and the entrails eaten out.
 
 

Activities of witness(es):  Most nights then it was hot and we all sat out on our porches.
 

Description of Creature:    It was very tall, looked like a very tall, muscular man about 7 foot tall.
