RECEIVED FROM: G.C.B.R.O. Web Site Submission Form

DATE:  April 06, 1999/99

TIME:   Dusk

LOCATION:    Hawkins County, Tennessee

TERRAIN:Pasture with surrounding trees

OBSERVED: I was plowing a field when I saw a creature walk out of the woods . It seemed to move very cautiously and look up at me where I sat on the tractor.  At first, I thought it was a bear as there have been some sighted in the area in the previous months.  I have kept my rifle , a 30-06, on my tractor just in case I ever ran into one of the them. I took a shot at the creature and hit it. I then called my neighbor and told him what happened and asked him to come help me track it and hopefully, find it's body. We searched the area until 2:00am, finding nothing, and called off the search till daylight. In the morning we searched the property, which included several caves but only found tracks and blood. During the search, we heard several wails that sounded like a mountain lion but much deeper and louder. We tried following the wails but never found the source from which they came.

ACTIVITIES OF WITNESS(ES):  Plowing a field

DESCRIPTION OF CREATURE:   Was very large, walked upright, was very fast and resembled a bear.

OTHER NOTES:   In the last few months there have been several calves that have been found dead and partially eaten. We thought a bear might have done this but were skeptical when we found extemely large tracks at the sight. One night I heard a calf bawling in the field and when I went to check on it and found a creature crouching down like it was eating it. Whe it saw me, the creature ran into the woods.

FOLLOW UPS:  Stan Sosnowski and Mary Green are currently working on this report.

OTHER SIGHTINGS IN THIS AREA:   In previous years my neighbor and myself  have lost many calves to these creatures.
