LOCATION:   Gold Coast area in South East Queensland.

TERRAIN:  Bushland,  trees and gullys, and stretched between two small housing estates but still quite a vast amount of bush land that linked with near by Mountains. 
 

OBSERVED: Back in July 97 at 11.30 pm. Gold Coast area in South East Queensland. The bushland I was standing near is linked to the Great Dividing Range and also my street.

I was having a 'phone affair with the Lady who is now my wife, so for obvious reasons I had told my 'ex' that I was just going for a walk ! I found somewhere dark.
I was standing behind a small clump of trees about 70 Meters from the road which had a bright street light.  Behind me about 20 metros away was the bush which was thick with trees and gullys, and stretched between two small housing estates but still quite a vast amount of bush land that linked with near by mountains.

I stood behind this clump of trees looking towards the road, and the bush stretched about 30 meters to my left and about 50 meters towards the road. Where I was standing it was all short grass all the way to the road, and the bush circled around to my left and up towards the road.

After about 20 minutes of talking I heard what resembled aprox. 3 people walking through the bush around 180 meters behind me and getting closer.  I didn't think much of it and kept talking.

A few minutes later I noticed that 'they' were about 120 meters behind me still making alot of cracking noises through the trees. I kept talking, talking and talking, then I noticed that 'they' had stopped.

2 Minutes later there was a 'crack' about 80 meters behind me, this time I paid a little more attention. It was very obvious to me that he was on two feet. Then I heard the soft noise of a leafy branch gently parting and gently being returned, 'crack', silence,
60 meters away, deliberate soft placement of feet slowly, silence.

I was still talking on the mobile phone but know I was talking softly and paying more attention, now thinking there's only one person in the bush and why is he now sneaking up behind me ? The thought of bad intentions didn't enter my mind at the time as back then I thought I was bullet proof !!!!

The slow and soft return of leaves on branch's and slow precise placement of footing started to bother me at 50 meters away (not forgetting I was still 20 meters from the tree line).  As it came closer, somehow he became even more delicate, kind of like a cat stalking a bird.

I became a little spooked and mentioned to my Wife that 'someone' is sneaking up behind me.

Small 'cracks' were still being heard, after every noise it made, he knew it and stopped, then started again, gently folding back shrubs now as it came close to the tree line.

I didn't want to appear to be scarred, so I slowly turned my head to the side and strained my eyeballs around to see something large slowly squat down behind some shrubs about 10 meters into the bush.

A chill ran through me to the bone, I whispered to my wife "I am going to have to run, there's something behind me".

The plan was straight to the street light, but I had to run to my left a little to get round these trees.

I took a deep breath, looked straight ahead, lifted my foot and ROAR !!!!!!! It lunged forward on my first step screaming and roaring with a noise that I can only describe as loud and horrifying, grunting, snapping, snarling and snorting, and if I may add, he was 'yelling' it at me !!! The hairs on my neck were on end, my whole body stricken with fear as it tore after me tearing small trees down like tooth picks.

Thud thud thud went its feet (definitely 2 feet!) it made 20 meters on my 10, he was running around to the left just with in the tree line bringing everything down and screaming, that dam screaming!!

Grunting like a pig/koala, and roaring like a Tiger. I was at maximum speed straight up the grass towards the street light, he had come from the right of me 10 meters in across a small creek over logs and trough trees, race right up level at me still roaring and he actually just passed me to try and cut me off, I then went to my right and he ran out of tree line and stopped at the edge, even stopped snarling and snapping as I reached the street light.

I looked back and there he was squatting in the trees just watching me ! 8 ft tall ? And the speed of this thing ! The strength, I would have had no chance, he would have snapped me in two before I had a chance to even scream. The aggression was horrendous as was the vocal noise.

He wanted to kill me. He just wanted to kill me. Why didn't he come out of the tree line - the light my friends - remember that, it may save your life one day.

His eyesight must have been extraordinary to be able to run almost 3 times my speed through a place at night that I couldn't run through during the day, too many obstacles.

And to think I walked through there on a few occasions by myself at night only a few weeks prior.

If your alone in the bush with no spotlight and there's one near - its all over.

Description of Creature:   8' tall screaming yelling, fast
