LOCATION:     Chesterfield County,  South Carolina
 

TERRAIN:        Wooded
 
 

OBSERVED:     (First Contact report to GCBRO)  I SAW A LARGE, HUMAN-SHAPED ANIMAL,  APROX. SEVEN FEET TALL, AND VERY WIDE ACROSS THE CHEST,  WITH MASSIVE SHOULDERS AND FOREARMS.  IT WAS HAIRY,  BUT I COULD STILL SEE SKIN UNDERNETH.   I HAD JUST CLIMBED OUT OF MY DEER STAND AND IT WAS DARK.   I REACHED INTO MY POUCH,  PULLED OUT MY MINIMAG,   TURNED IT ON,  AND TURNED TO PICK UP MY RIFLE.  AS I TURNED, MY FLASH LITE HIT THIS ANIMAL JUST ABOVE THE WAIST.   IT WAS LESS THAN FIVE FEET AWAY AND WAS STANDING WITH ITS ARMS LOOSELY CROSSED OVER ITS MIDSECTION.

I  FROZE OUT OF FEAR.   I HAD MY HEAD TILTED SORT OF DOWN AS I WAS TRYING TO LOCATE MY RIFLE AND STAY STILL,  ALL AT THE SAME TIME,  TRYING TO KEEP AN EYE ON WHAT IT WAS DOING.  I REMEMBER CUTTING MY EYES UP TRYING TO SEE ITS FACE AND IT SLAPED ITS ARMS TOGETHER VERY HARD AND VERY FAST AT WICH TIME I TRIED TO RUN,  BUT MY LEGGS WOULDNT MOVE AS FAST AS MY MIND WAS RUNNING AND I ENDED UP ON MY HANDS AND KNEES CRAWLING.   AFTER A FEW YARDS,  I REALIZED IT WAS NOT AFTER ME SO I SAT THERE IN THE DARK FOR A LITTLE WHILE AND STARTED GATHERING MY STUFF BACK UP

AS FOR YOUR QUESTIONS, LET ME TELL YOU FROM THE BEGINING I WAS IN
MY DEER STAND.  I HAD NOT SEEN ANY DEER OF WICH I KNEW WERE IN THIS
PARTICULAR SECTION OF WOODS FROM EARLIER SCOUTING I HAD DONE IN
THIS AREA (ALONG WITH PREVIOUS HUNTS) ALL OF WITCH HAD BEEN
PRODUCTIVE.

I STAYED LONGER THAN USUAL BECAUSE I THOUGHT THE DEER
MIGHT HAVE GONE NOCTURNAL AND I WANTED TO KNOW {DOG HUNTERS IN THE
AREA}.   IT WAS DARK AND VERY QUIET.   NO DEER HAD WANDERED THREW OR
VISITED THE FEEDER THAT WAS THERE SO I DECIDED TO CLINB DOWN AND
START OUT.  OUT IS ABOUT A TWEENTY MINUET WALK AND COVERS VARIED
TERRAIN.   ANYWAY,  I LOWERED MY RIFLE ON A ROPE TO THE GROUND AND
THEN I CLIMBED DOWN.

I HAVE A SMALL POUCH I WEAR ON MY BELT TO KEEP STUFF IN FLASHLITE ECT...I GOT MY FLASHLITE OUT,  TURNED IT ON, AND STARTED TURNING AROUND TO PICK UP MY RIFLE AND AS I TURNED THE LITE HIT IT ABOUT THE MID SECTION.  I FROZE.    I DIDNT KNOW WHAT IT WAS AT FIRST BUT I KNEW IT WASNT THERE BEFORE.   THEN I REALIZED WHAT IT WAS AND IT WAS CLOSE.    IF I WOULD HAVE HAD MY RIFLE IN MY HAND I COULD HAVE POKED HIM WITH IT.

THATS WHEN MY HAIR STOOD UP AND I WILL NEVER FORGET THE SKIN ON MY FACE GOT SO TIGHT IT ALMOST HURT.   MY HART WAS FLUTTERING.   I WAS TRYING TO BE STILL AND QUIET SO HARD THAT IT WAS HARD TO BREATH.   I COULD SEE MOVEMENT BUT I COULDNT SEE A FACE SO I TRIED TO TILT MY HEAD SO I COULD
SEE  BETTER,  IT AND MY RIFLE,  WITCH I WAS TRYING TO LOCATE WHILE
WATCHING EVERY MOVE IT MADE.    I DONT KNOW FOR SURE BUT I THINK
IT WAS TRYING TO SEE ME AS HARD AS I WAS TRYING TO SEE IT.

THATS WHAT SET IT OFF,  THAT TINY TURN OF MY HEAD AND IT SLAPED ITS ARMS
TOGETHER SO HARD YOU COULD ALMOST FEEL IT.   I TRIED TO RUN THEN
BECAUSE I KNEW AS CLOSE AS IT WAS IT WOULD BE ON ME BEFORE I
COULD GET MY GUN AND I WASNT ABOUT TO JUST STAND THERE ANY MORE.
THATS WHEN I FOUND OUT MY LEGGS DIDNT WORK THAT WELL ANY MORE
SO I WOUND UP ON MY HANDS AND KNEES CRAWLING.   I HEARD IT HUFFING
OR SOMTHING LOUD A COUPLE OF TIMES AS IT RAN BY ME SORT OF AT AN
ANGLE,  BUT STILL IN MY GENERAL DIRECTION.

I RAN INTO A SMALL TREE THATS WHEN I STOPED AND JUST SAT FOR A FEW MOMENTS TRYING TO  PIECE TOGETHER WHAT HAD JUST HAPPEND AND REALIZED I HAD LOST MY LITE AND MY GUN.   I QUICKLY GATHERED MY GEAR AND GOT THE .... OUT OF THERE, AND YES I HAVE BEEN BACK, AND YES I HAVE HEARD SOUNDS
THAT REALLY MAKE ME WONDER.   THE ONLY DIFFRENCE IS I CARRY A
LARGER CALIBER RIFLE NOW AND IT NEVER LEAVES MY HAND.   WHO KNOWS?
IT MAY HAPPEN AGAIN AND I WILL BE READY NEXT TIME.
 
 

ACTIVITIES OF WITNESS(ES):    SITTING IN DEER STAND FOR THREE HOURS.
 

DESCRIPTION OF CREATURE:     APPROXIMATELY SEVEN FEET TALL. COVERED IN HAIR. VERY STOUT STRONG UPPER BODY.    FAST.....
 

OTHER NOTES:     HAD NEVER BEEN IN THIS STAND AND NOT SEEN DEER UNTIL THAT DAY.
 

OTHER OTHER NOTES:      THERE WAS NO BAD SMELL. IT MADE VERY LITTLE NOISE IF ANY IN LEAF COVERED TERAIN AS I DID NOT HEAR ITS APPROACH. THE ONLY NOISE I HEARD WAS A LOUD HUFFING SOUND IT MADE AFTER I TRYED TO RUN
