LOCATION:  Townsville, Queensland, Australia.
 
 

TERRAIN: Fields of medium height grass and patches of clover.  We had seen flat areas of grass which we were latertold were probably from horses laying down.
About 100 yards across the grass were tall trees.
 
 

OBSERVED:   This is my story of a sighting of an unknown creature which I have been
told could have been a YOWIE.  I was 10 or 11 years old living in Townsville, Queensland, Australia.

I can not tell you what time of the year it was because Townsville is so far north that it is always warm.

Anyway, it was sometime around 1970 or 1971, and I was visiting a friend of mine who lived afew miles away.  I walked a lot then and it was an all day thing to goto his house to play.

He lived at the edge of town.  I remember passing a strip mall that was pretty long.  There were a few new (within the last 4-5 years) homesnearby.

His house was not new.  His father enjoyed the fact that I was an American and enjoyed talking to me.

We were outside where there were fields of medium height grass and patches of clover.  We had seen flat areas of grass which we were latertold were probably from horses laying down.

About 100 yards across the grass were tall trees.  We were about three quarters back when I stopped to bend over and look at the clovers; inhopes of finding a 4 leaf one.  My friend was a few yards ahead of mewhen I looked up for him, I then looked behind me towards the trees andsaw a large black silhouette move behind one of them.  It exposed itselffrom about the middle on up and looked like a large human shape.  I
could make out a chest and head easily and it was dark, possible dark brown or black.  I felt sure it was looking at me.  Neither of us (theshape or I) moved for a moment as if checking each other out, then Iturned and ran towards my friend and we ran together to his house.  I amunsure if he saw anything or just listened to me and put himself in my
shoes.  We never told anyone for fear of being ridiculed.

Well, that's about all I can say except I am sure there was something there from 6-8 feet tall and it looked at me unthreateningly.
 

Other Notes:  I have found the witness to be very credible, and an upstanding member of his church, and neighborhood.
 

Description of Creature:   6-8 feet tall, possibly dark brown or black.
