REPORT RECEIVED: From the GCBRO Online Reports Submissions Form

TIME:                  Approximately between 9 P.M. and 10 P.M.
 

LOCATION:       Eudlo, Queensland.
                       Small town not to far from the Glass House Mountains

TERRAIN:             Thick bush with deep gullies. Very  isolated

OBSERVED:    This encounter was an extremly freaky part of my life. One that I was not able to talk about until recently. It involved myself and an ex girlfriend. Apart from that the only other person privy to this story is my wife who I told about a year ago. As I said it was only about a year ago that I could even bring myself to think about the night in question. I told no one for fear of ridicule. And the young lady with me that night never said a word about it after the whole time we remained togeather. In the end I just told myself to forget it and belive that it was just an animal and I had imagined it. I knew I was kidding myself.

To give you some background I've always been a bush person, having had my father who is a shooter start me off young. I don't have a problem with sleeping on the ground and pay little heed to the night sounds of the Australian bush. I've hunted and stalked every type of ferral animal (except camels, horses, buffalo) and all manner of other native beasts (natives observed only) and consider myself pretty sneaky in the bush on a good day. I can also track and determine age of the sign and how it was moving. So what I'm trying to say is that nothing in this country of ours puts the wind up me to the point that I become a ball of jelly unable to move due to a fear that I have never experienced since this encounter.

Put it this way, I NEVER, NEVER EVER go into the deep bush by myself unarmed. I'm not talking a club or a knife either! What I saw you would want a firearm of some merit and size. I would not set out on purpose to shoot this creature because it belongs where it is, but if it was me or him/her then so be it. In fact I preferr not to go deep bush without someone else with me.

Any way , when I was in high school a friend and I would take our trailbikes and head bush for a bit of riding and of a night time a bit of drinking and hopefully some girlys. NO! I wasn't drinking at the time. As I will explain, that was the reason that my ex and I found ourselves on our own. We had been going to this area to ride and camp for years and I felt quite safe. It is really thick bush with lots of tracks and a qite large cave that we had sometimes camped in. Any locals to the area would probably realise where I'm talking about. (The caves between the Eudlo area and Glenview. This particular time we were camping a little west along the track on a flat high bit of ground that gave us the morning sun to warm up in the mornings. We had been there a couple of nights already with no strange happenings. On about the 3rd night we had run out of grog the night before so my mate and one of the local boys that had come up to stay for a while jumped on a bike and headed of to the local guys house to see if they could steal a bottle of something from the old mans grog cupboard.

It was already dark when they left and I had the fire going. At some stage my ex and I thought it would be a good idea to retire to the tent for a bit of quiet time, if you know what I mean. Up until then there was nothing unusual around us. However , as soon as we hit the tent I heard something. Directly behind the tent about 15m away and slightly down the slope all the crickets suddenly stoped . Only in that area. Thats why I noticed. I thought nothing of it at first until I heard something quite clearly on two legs quietly making it's way towards the tent. It stopped about 5 or 6 m away from us. I didn't have to ask the ex because the first thing she said was"did you hear that". We sat perfectly still and quiet for what seemed like ages, and heard nothing. I was just about to tell myself that it was nothing and to hope out and make sure when suddenly the hushed steps started again.

It circled around the tent about 3 times going out wide and down the slope on the other side of the fire just out of the light circle. By this stage the fire had died down, I had a shaking hysterical female holding a camping knife and I was well on the way to being scared wittless. I heard the thing come back in behind the tent on the dark side again and I forced myself to gingerly crawl over and peer out the the rear flap. What I saw froze me where I was. I swear I could not move an inch. It was about 3m tall and very thick set in the shoulders. Also it was hairy.

I could not move, I could not speak and I sure as hell thought that if this thing decided to go the tent it would have ripped it to shreds and us too. It's neck was as thick as it's head and it had arms as thick as my legs. It's arms seemed to be a little long for it's body size but that could have been because it was standing in bladey grass that would have been about 40cm high. Then it started to move around the tent again, with long slow hushed strides. I some how managed to crawl back to the centre of the tent. It continued to circle the tent in the same manner as before until the sound of a distant bike could be heard. It stoped moving and I was just about to hop out of the tent,thinking it was gone, when the light of the bike could be seen coming over the last rise up the track.

It was then I heard a low, guteral growl and I heard it bounding of down the slope behind the gully behind the tent where we had heard it approach from. When the bike finally arrived we got out of the tent. We looked at each other and said nothing. I said to my mate that we were going to bed. We got into the tent zipped it up and crawled togeather and lay there armed with a knife and a tommahawlk and did not sleep a wink for the rest of the night. We never spoke of it again. Ever. I belive that little glowing fire that was almost dead, saved our bums.
 
 

Description of Creature:  It was about 3m tall and very thick set in the shoulders. Also it was hairy.

Activities of Witness:  We had been riding all day. We had the fire going and had just finished tea when my 2 mates left to scrounge some grog. Which I might add, they came back empty handed. I would have been very gratefull for a drink after what had happened.
 
 

Other Notes:  As I said I do a lot of shooting and on one trip out near Hebel there were 16 blackfellas staying on the property doing some contract stick picking in the new cotton cultivations. A couple of the older ones were telling me some stories about what they call "feather feet". Same deal as our yowie, and also they said that when these creatures know they are being tracked the piss right off and leave tracks that thier best trackers can't follow or find. They said they can grow really tall, are covered in hair,smell like rotting emu flesh and leave bite marks in trees at a hieght higher than a man. Another thing they said was that at some stage if you go through the bush you would have passed them and not seen them because they blend in so well. And the one thing that sticks in my mind,that they said, is that a big male "feather foot" would always have a go at a human if he was by himself, and a female would have a go if she had young, and also a female with young always has a big male somewhere close by. One really old bloke said that we shouldn't be talking about it and when we didn't stop he got up and left. I saw the look on his face and I would describe it as fear.??! These guys were rough but the were nice and were deadly serious in everything they said. I personally belive them.
