OBSERVED:    This incident was reported to me by a trusted friend.

At a previous place of employment in Broken Arrow, OK, I was discussing alleged bigfoot sightings with coworkers (sometime in 1997) as the subject had came up after a few of us had perused an article in "Outdoor Oklahoma" about urban legends which included accounts of Sooner State bigfoot sightings.  As we were talking and laughing about the article, my good friend, B. R., formerly from Ardmore, nonchalantly stated he and a friend had a bigfoot sighting in the woods near Ardmore back in the eighties (I think it was the mid-eighties) when he was a kid.

He related how he and a friend were playing in the woods when suddenly they noticed a bigfoot standing next to a tree "a ways off" (he didn't give a distance). He simply stated that the experience frightened both him and his friend so badly that they ran out of the woods as fast as they could and didn't want to stick around.

Being the skeptic that I am (I thought he was joking at first), I responded, "No way!" and refused to believe him.

I suggested to him that he had seen a bear as black bears have made a comeback in the area.  I asked him directly if it could have been a black bear standing on it's hind legs against the tree.  He swore up and down that it was not a bear and did not resemble a bear at all, that it was standing upright, like a man, and had dark fur or hair on it except in the face.

Both of us are Christians, and I asked him, if he would promise me before God that what he was telling me was the truth I would believe him.  He said it was the sworn truth.  I know B.R. well enough that he was not lying to me so I do accept what he stated.

B.R. moved to Athens, GA a month or two later to work as an assistant pastor in a Baptist church, and besides receiving a newsletter once, I have not heard from him since.  I believe his family still resides in Ardmore.

Description of Creature:  It was standing upright, like a man, and had dark fur or hair on it except in the face.

Activities of Witness:  Merely playing in the woods as boys often due in rural areas.

Other Notes:  I've heard numerous reports from television and newspapers of alleged sightings in Southeastern Oklahoma.  Recently, News Channel 8 in Tulsa reported on sightings this January in Smithville and the Honobia area.  Smithville has had town meetings, according to News Channel 8 on the very subject of bigfoot sightings in the area.

Other Other Notes:  I am an avid hunter and may be hunting deer in the vast area of Honobia Creek this
coming Fall.  You can bet my best deer rifle I'll be looking for more than just deer sign this Fall, if I hunt that area.  I usually hunt in Creek county or Wagoner county, though, but am kicking around the idea of an Honobia hunt.
