Received From: The GCBRO Online
Report Submission Form.
DATE:
November 5, 19??
TIME:
morning between 9 and 10 am
LOCATION:
New Jersey, Somerset County
TERRAIN:
Wooded
OBSERVED:
I was about 10 years old and one Sunday morning I chose not to go to church
with my family. I was looking east out a window and observed a large creature
walking along a fence line about 100 yds away. At first I thought it was
a bear, but realized it was traveling on two legs. I remember the hair
on the back of my neck standing up. What I really recall was when it got
to an intersection in split rail fence, where it was joined by a barbed
wire fence, it simply stepped over it. This sighting lasted about 30-50
seconds.
Activities of Witness:
I had just awoke and my family had just left for church.
Description of Creature:
It was tall judging by the height of the fence it was traveling next to.
The split rail fence was about 4 to 4 1/2 feet high and it was much taller
than that. I would approximate about 6 1/2 to 7 feet. It's color was mostly
black with a reddish brown to it. I remember the gait and arms swinging.
It moved very quickly and almost seemed to glide.
Other Notes: I had another incident about 4-5 weeks later while checking a trap line I ran very close by. I had just clubbed a muskrat and I heard what sounded like someone approaching. I called thinking it was my father. I then heard brush being rustled and a wuffling sort of noise. I made a lot of noise "shooing"; whatever it was and then, keeping the brush between me and whatever it was, walked along the edge of the stream, across a dam we had been told not to cross, then up a hill and ran home. I felt very frightened and told my father. He thought it was just my imagination, but I know what I heard. I also recall another incident, a bit further north on Larger Cross Rd. It was the summer before or following and I do not recall exactly the dates, it has been many years. My Brother and I were riding our bikes along a small copse of woods mostly pine. I recall hearing something "pacing" us in the woods just out of site, we bicycled home very quickly.
There also was an attack on some
sheep inside a barn around this same time period that was attributed to
dogs by the animal warden. I recall overhearing, from an adult, that what
was curious was how these dogs got into the sheep fold. Dogs where known
to run in packs and go feral in this area.
Additional Notes and or Follow up Comments: Upon contact the witness had no additional information to add to this report.
