OBSERVED:
My girlfriend and I were checking out and photographing some beaver ponds
as we were leaving one to go see the next one downstream we heard a loud
whoop call from across the ponds in the woods we immediately stopped and
questioned each other about what it was. We both looked in the direction
of the call nothing moved and no birds were seen. We continued on
down to the other pond I was continuously watching the woods ahead and
around us and saw nothing. I am 47 years old and have camped and
hiked in the woods all my life and I have never heard a sound like that
it completely unnerved the hell out of me. We explored the ponds
a little longer but heard nothing else. We decided to hike to a fire
tower whose road was closed for the winter it was mainly snow covered.
We spotted a few footprints about a quarter mile up the road but they were
hard to tell what they were and just thought it was someone playing a joke
as we continued on the snow got deeper and we spotted the tracks again
this time they were very clear. They continued alongside the road
for a few yards before going into the woods near the top of a ridge we
continued on without seeing anymore footprints. The tracks were not
fresh. We took photos of several of the prints a couple with me trying
to match the stride and a couple with our feet beside as comparison.
These tracks were about two miles from the locked gate.
Activities
of Witness: girlfriend was
alongside the whole time. We were alone when we heard the call and
saw the footprints.
