TERRAIN:
Wooded
OBSERVED: Approximately 4:00 p.m. I was sitting on my back porch taking in the quietness of the 5 acres I live on with my wife and father in law. There was a slow moving breeze that afternoon. As I sat there I quickly noticed a foul odor coming from the wooded area which is the back 3 acres. I can only describe it as a sewer smell. Since there are no open sewer ponds on near by property and I have heard that the first indication of MoMo is a foul odor; I became very alert. My Australian Shepherd Border Collie mix was growling and pacing back in forth at the tree line but would not go into the wooded area. At times my wife insists that I get up and investigate. I utilize a night vision scope to view the tree line which is approximately 20 meters from the east side of the house, 10 meters from the back porch, 30 meters from the front of the home.
One
Saturday night last year as myself and five close friends were finishing
bible study, XXXXXXX and XXXX were walking out the front door of my home
when XXXX yelled out for me to get my shotgun. I went to the door wondering
what had scared him and all three of us heard something very large moving
through the trees. I proceeded to get the gun and went outside. I ordered
my dog into the woods after what ever it was but he just went to the edge
of the tree line and would lay down and go no farther. XXXXXXX said it
was a bear, but neither XXXX or I saw a bear.
