TIME:   10:30 P.M.

LOCATION:   Paris, Missouri, Monroe County

TERRAIN:     Wooded
 

OBSERVED:   A small furry ape like animal came up out of the ditch on the
left side of the road. My date was driving. The amimal ran in front of the car in the headlights with its back to us , never turning to show its face. It ran upright with its arms swinging at its sides. It was about 2 foot tall or more. After running
approximately 30 feet it ran down into the ditch again on the left side of the road. My date stopped the car and got out to see if he could see it but couldn't find it in the dark.
 

Activities of Witness: We had been to his Aunts house for supper and card playing.
No alcohol or any type of drug of any kind had been taken by us prior to this event. We were, indeed, completely sober. He was driving me home, a 8 mile trip.
 
 

Description of Creature:   Small, furry, ape-like animal, 2 foot tall, running upright, arms swinging at its sides.

Other Notes:   No, but I would like to explain that I grew-up on a farm in Central Missouri.   I know the difference between Racoons, Oppossems, cats, brown bears, skunks, Groundhogs,etc.etc. I had NEVER seen anything like this before and haven't since. It came to mind that perhaps it was a monkey or chimp but why would one be running in the wild in the middle of nowhere? At the time this occured , when my date had gotten out of the car to look for it the thought came to mind that this was a baby and that the Mother could be near by. I yelled for him to come back to the car. After that I had nightmares of these animals living in the woods near the "Union Covered Bridge" now a State Historical sight.
 

Other Other Notes:    (Additional information sent in by e-mail)  By the way in the report I said it was 2 foot tall but it had to be taller because it was  taller than  the front end of the car so however tall that
is. It was dark colored and  with thick fur , but like I said it never turned so
we could see its face.
