TIME:
Around 5:00 pm
LOCATION:
Chippewa County, Michigan
TERRAIN:
Variety of terrain (thick aspen, pine, some
hardwoods, swampy in areas)
OBSERVED:
I will relate exactly what was told to me
by my close friend and hunting partner. He disbelieves the existence of
bigfoot. I myself have never had an encounter with nor heard the sound
of a bigfoot, though I do not dismiss the possibility of their existence.
What I am about to relate is the whole truth. I am in seminary preparing
for the ministry and my friend is equally honest/trustworthy. We were deer
hunting off an old logging trail which leads about a mile back to a small
creek (3/4 to 1 mile). There is a beaver dam which runs along one side
about 25 - 35 yards off the trail. In total there were three of us hunting
just off this old logging trail that afternoon (myself and two other friends).
I was in less than half a mile along the logging trail, my other two friends
were closer to the creek (one several yards before and the other further
back beyond the creek). It got towards dusk and I left my blind and walked
out and stood on the old logging trail waiting for my two friends. It was
nearing 5:15 - 5:30 p.m. A few minutes later my one friend walks up. He
asks where my other friend was (we usually all walked out together). I
told him that I hadn't seen him. He then told me that he was sure that
my other friend would already be here because he had heard what "sounded
like a man walking out along the logging trail" a little after five o'clock.
He said that he was making alot of noise breaking the ice in the wet areas
as he walked. I told him it probably was a bear. He said "no" it was definitely
something walking on two feet (not all four) and sounded just like a man
by his steps. He didn't hear (or see) anything else but this. He then decided
to pack up and come out. He said that he didn't notice any broken ice in
the trail on his way out. It is my assumption either that the water refroze
during the interim or that the noise was actually coming from along the
beaver pond which is located just a few yards off the trail in this particular
location. A few minutes later my other friend walked up. He said that he
hadn't seen or heard anything but that he had walked out quickly. It was
almost dark. As we walked out that night I paid particular attention to
see if we broke the ice on top of the wet spots we walked on. We didn't.
The trail was wide enough for two of us to walk side by side. That would
be a total of about 450 pounds (I myself weigh almost 250 pounds.) on each
piece we stepped on. I do not know that this was a bigfoot for sure but
the incident is certainly curious.
Activities of Witness:
We were rifle deer hunting
Description of Creature:
Bigfoot not actually seen. Only thing that
I can say for certain was that from the noise it made walking it sounded
like it was walking upright (on two feet not four). Its' weight certainly
was in excess of 450 pounds.
Other Notes:
N/A
Other (Informational or Encounter
History in the General Area) Notes:
A few years earlier (mid-Nov. 1996 and 1997)
we heard strange noises coming from around the remains of a dead deer and
a bait pile of apples and cracked corn. Sounds that my friend and I heard
were different than any that we have ever heard during our many years in
the woods. They can only be described as a deep grunt or groan (deeper
than a deer) and a louder moan. Alot of other noise was associated with
these noises such as breaking of branches, rustling of leaves, etc. However,
nothing was actually seen nor did we investigate.
Additional Notes and or Follow
up Comments: Upon
contact the witness added: Regarding the
“encounter history” I supplied I would also like to add that from the noises
we heard it sounded as though whatever was there was agitated that we were
also there.
