OBSERVED:     It was Summer of 1970. I was taking my pony and dog for a walk in the woods. I looked up and saw a huge,dark colored creature that looked somewhat like a gorilla and was partly hunched over. Bears are extremly rare in that area. I ran as fast as I could to my house which was probably 150 feet away. I never saw it again.

Other Notes:     A couple years later my mother looked out the kitchen window and saw a creature that was walking on all fours and it was in the field and got into the stream and it walked around the corner and was out of sight. She never saw it again.
 

Other, Other, Notes: .  I always felt like nobody would really believe me here about the
creature I saw.  I remember feeling so scared and like I had never seen anything
like it before.  There are no bears that are native to our area so it just
didn't seem possible that it could have been a bear and I think I would have
recognized it as a bear.  I just remember the extreme terror I felt at seeing
this huge dark hairy creature there in the woods.  There was an old broken down
fence between us and I was maybe 50 feet away from it when I saw or maybe not
even that far.  I will have to go up there and measure the distance sometime.  I
found it interesting that the two other sightings were in wooded areas and one
mentioned being near a stream.  The other sightings were further east of our
county but not really that far away.  Those counties would be close to streams
that would feed into the Chesapeake Bay probably and the one I lived close to
eventually feeds into there through the Conococheague Creek and then Potomac
River and then into the bay.  I don't know if that would have anything to do
with the sightings or not.  I will ask my mother about the creature she saw and
find out if it was ever on two feet.  She was at the kitchen window when she saw
it and it was in the same general area of the creature I saw.
