OBSERVED:    Our house was set very far back from the road and our back yard was wooded.  The farther out past our back yard you walked, the thicker the trees were.  During the day my friends and I would explore and find old squatters shacks and small garbage dumps deep in these woods.  I was 15 at the time and had recently moved to Maryland from Boston, MA.  I was not used to "monster in the woods" stories.  However, many of the kids I went to school with would tell stories of the "Shady Side Swamp Monster" or the "Bloop-bloop Man".  These were stories of a supposed bigfoot like creature living in the woods around the Chesapeake Bay.

My step-father, who was a high-ranking Naval Officer at the NSA at the time, was a very strict and straight laced man.  He didn't play games, tell stories, or get involved with pranks.  He ran his household like he ran his ship.  One morning at breakfast he was visibly shaken and started to grill me about my friends and any pranks we had played the night before.  I had been home and in my room all night.  My mother confirmed that I was alone and home and not with any friends.

It seems that sometime after midnight, my step father got up to get a glass of water from the kitchen sink.  While standing in the dark kitchen, he looked out the window over the sink into the back yard while he drank his water.  He said that the moon was bright enough that he could make out the shape of the trees and the shed in the yard.  It was then that he noticed a large rounded shape that looked like it was moving.  He said at first he thought it was a large bear but was surprised because there are no known bears in this area.

While he was still watching, this large animal began to move, he said that it suddenly stood upright and had to be "gigantic, because it's head was level with the kitchen window", which was 7 feet up from the back yard.  My step father ran to the light switch to turn on the back yard flood lights and by the time he got back to the window, he caught a glimpse of it running upright just before it disappeared into the dark shadows of the trees past the reach of the flood lights.  I could tell my step-father wasn't lying and he was mad because he couldn't explain it and didn't know what it was.  I told him about the stories of the "Shady Side Swamp Monster" and he blew the story off as silly stories made up by kids.  However, he never could explain what he saw that night.

Now twenty years later, he still refuses to talk about what he saw that night.

Description of Creature:  large gigantic animal, around 7 feet tall.
