TIME:

LOCATION:
Johnson County, Kansas
TERRAIN:
Wooded and rather secluded for the area.
OBSERVED:
A group of my high school friends used to spend our weekends in a secluded
spot hosting outdoor parties. On this particular night four of us were
walking down to the old abandoned bridge. One had a pellet rifle and I
was carrying a cooler of wine coolers and beer. The road was closed so
we would walk around an 1/8th of a mile to the bridge. This evening it
was a little later than normal and dark outside. Suddenly, we heard a very
loud call from the woods almost laughing like a hyena or with vibrato like
a monkey and then went into a long winded wail or howl. None of us had
ever heard anything like this and were very frightened. A friend fired
several shots into the tree line with a high powered pellet gun. The sound
was very loud and it sounded like something huge. One of us argued that
maybe it was a large crane or some large bird we never heard, although
he admitted it was completely foreign to anything he had heard. We retreated
walking backwards passing out beer bottles and loading the pellet gun being
careful not to run for fear of being charged. We never returned to the
spot. About two years ago I was doing research on this subject writing
several notable articles. While doing background research I encountered
recordings of the Ohio recordings. Remembering the incident I forwarded
the recordings to a friend I hadn't spoke to in years. He confirmed that
was the sound we heard and said it brought back chills.
Activities
of Witness: All were walking
to the bridge. There were four of us.
Description
of Creature: We never got a visual
or odor. Just the loud vocal, which was extremely loud.

Other
(Informational or Encounter History in the General Area) Notes:
I know of at least one report. The Olathe Dump is directly to the East.
Just beyond that is Ernie Miller Park along 7 HWY. A group of guys who
I did not know that well told me at a party they saw a Sasquatch in the
park while hiking the trails. This is approximately 1 mile to the East
and the sightings would have been perhaps been 6 months to 2 years apart
in occurrence. To the North of this area there are some steep cliff features
or a quarry. Cedar Creek runs North to the Kansas River.
