LOCATION:
Cherokee County, Kansas
TERRAIN:
Woods about 100 yards behind our house
OBSERVED:
I arrived home from work at around 12:30 AM (2nd shift). I got out of my
car and noticed my dog was out near the woods barking viciously at something.
Since it was dark, I could not see what was out there, so I started my
car and backed up to shine the lights into the woods. I spotted my dog
(a German Shepherd) at the edge of our yard by the trees with his fur up
and barking at something in the woods. My mom called out to me to come
inside, because something was out in the woods and was making an awful
noise. Just then I heard a loud "roar" from the woods. I would describe
it as lion roar noise that is in a cartoon, but much louder. This freaked
me out, but I was concerned about my dog, so I walked towards the woods
to see what was there. It made another roar, so I stopped and called to
my dog to come to me. He did, so I did not go any further. I never saw
the creature, but I did smell it and hear it. The smell was similar to
a lathered horse, but somewhat skunky. I had similar experiences to this
on other nights, including the smell coming into the house from a fan in
the window. My dog went nuts on these nights as well.

of Witness: Coming home from
work.
Description
of Creature: I never saw the creature,
but I did smell it and hear it. The smell was similar to a lathered horse,
but somewhat skunky. I did not go into the woods to check it out.
Bears had been rumored to have been in SE Kansas a few years earlier, so
I assumed it might have been a bear. A few years later, I read about bigfoot,
and found the descriptions of the smell and sound of bigfoot to match what
I had observed.
