Received From: The GCBRO Online
Report Submission Form.
DATE:
10/11/03
TIME:
around 1:00 am
LOCATION:
Indiana, Kosciusko County
TERRAIN:
Wooded
OBSERVED:
My son and two friends were coming home right around 1:am from high school
homecoming events. As they walked up to the trailer porch in the dark,
they looked back over their shoulders to the south towards the lake, which
is about 150+ feet south of the trailer down a slight hill. Part of the
land is open, part is lightly wooded. In summer with growth you can't see
through it, now in fall or winter, you can. Friday night the 10th was a
full moon directly overhead to the south, and you could absolutely see
all over the place. When one of the boys looked down to where the boats
sit at the water's edge, he noticed a tree stump. Then, the tree stump
got up and was a "huge"... it then walked east quickly, but then turned
around and started walking west back closer to the woods directly south
of the porch. They described it as walking on two feet... "way taller than
a man", and was very massive. As my son started to panic and ran to the
end of the trailer to get in through a window the other two boys continued
to pound on the front door to wake me to let them in. I met XXXX (in a
panic) at the front door as we both grabbed for the door handle and let
the other two in. They scrambled through the door and slammed it shut and
started telling me what they had just seen. I was too groggy to even comprehend
what they were talking about, but the next day we talked about it. That
night, they could hardly sleep, and stayed up much of the night trying
to vent their fear and excitement about what had just happened. I had looked
out that night and did at the time the door flew open to let them in. For
being nighttime, with the full moon directly overhead, you really could
see down to the lake, and even across the lake with very little difficulty.
There were no porch lights to hinder view. We now have the trailer's end
flood lights working and the porch light fixture replaced and working.
We don't walk outside now, without taking a good look around.
Activities of Witness:
Had been to a Homecoming event, a friend's house to watch TV... came home
to crash out for the evening. The oldest is 17. My son is 15, and his other
friend is 15 also.
Description of Creature:
Well in excess of a normal man.. I'm 6'. They say it was "way taller" than
me. It walked upright on two feet. Moved very quickly. Even in the moonlight,
they said they could see that it was very bulky... had a very large frame
to it.
Other Notes: They all 3 agree that they heard a grunting sound as it moved. Once it disappeared into the woods directly south of the trailer, (even before) they could hear a grunting sound. Once out of sight in the brush and closer, they could hear it moving quickly up through the growth and limbs towards the trailer. One of the 3 states he could smell "something that smelled"; in the air. The other two don't really remember. They were just scared of "it".
Also, approximately a year ago, XXXX and one of these guys had been outside after dark with a paint ball gun and flashlight running around doing "typical kid stuff" when they went over near some sheds we have. The light hit "a very big dog" laying in the grass... but when they startled it, it started to get up and they realized it wasn't a dog. It was generally the same thing they say they saw this time. They never saw a face, just a massive large hairy, dark "thing" way bigger than a man. As it started to get up from laying in the grass between the two sheds, they "ran like hell" back to the trailer. They never looked back once. They were too scared. We all have teased them since then about this "9 foot dog" (as they first called it) back when this happened. We don't tease them about it anymore. We've had some small trees snapped, and other odd things like that. Like a large dead branch propped up at a 45 degree angle into a medium sized apple tree out in our yard. This area is very rural.. and only a few miles from protected state lands. This entire county is farm, lake and woods. Not a largely populated county.
We've had large and small dogs in
house with us before. There have been times when they would bolt up in
the middle of the night and launch into a rant around the windows and front
door. Then just as quickly as they started, they would stop and settle
down. We do live within site of large electrical transmission lines that
run through this part of the county. I've read speculation about them being
"followed" by BF's. I/We've heard "odd sounds out there" in the night
before, and the deer or other wildlife we know of, we recognize. We've
heard sounds of large branches cracking in the night... not just deer pushing
their way through thickets... things like that. {I've lived out here almost
20 years now.} My gut reaction is that this is a seasonal movement through
here. Hopefully we'll see next spring, or wait until the fall again for
more. IF something else does happen yet this fall, I'll submit it.
Additional Notes and or Follow up Comments: Upon contact the witness had no additional information to add to this report.
