OBSERVED: Me and my two sons were hunting deer out of blinds. I was in a blind with my younger son. My other son was in a blind about 150 to 200 yards to the south of us. About 6:30 pm we heard something that sounded like a baseball bat being swung at a tree three times. Being concerned because the noise came from the direction of the other blind. We collected our stuff and headed to him. When I asked him he said the noise came from our direction. He collected his gear and we headed back to the tent. About 10 min into the walk we encountered a very strong musky smell, it was rank. I thought I heard something so I stopped and asked my older son to get the mag light from my back pack. Then we all heard it, this loud roar that tapered down to a low base growl that could not have been more than 40 yards to my left. We started up the hill at a quicker pace. It took another 100 yards to get away from the smell. The next afternoon when we went back to get the blinds because it was time to go there was no smell off anything. We searched the area for any sign of anything dead that might have smelled, we found nothing.
About
two months later I was in the same area hunting again. I came across some
tracks in the snow. The spread was aprox 60". They were about 16" long
and they went for about 200 yards and down a hill. I have some pictures
on my cell phone.
Activities
of Witness: We were hunting
early muzzle loader season and camping for the week.
Description
of Creature: I never saw what it
was, it was pitch black.
