DATE:  10/19/02
An official report was sent to the GCBRO on October 20, 2002.

TIME:   10:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

LOCATION:   Cusseta, Georgia, Chattahoochee County

TERRAIN:      Wooded

OBSERVED:   Witness reported to the GCBRO about unexplained sounds heard while walking in the pre-dusk evenings. Additional findings by the witness were hair specimens, territorial markers and footprints of a large animal. GCBRO Investigator, Jeffrey A. Teagle was sent to inspect the residence.

Witness (female age 38) first noticed the Bigfoot activity while walking in the evening hours. As described by the witness, a heavy "thudding" sound as if something heavy were following her along the road's wood-line was described on and near the witness' property. A son of the witness (15 years) has also reported sounds from the woods directly across from the residence.

ACTIVITIES OF WITNESSES:

DESCRIPTION OF CREATURE:

OTHER NOTES:  Smelly odors that occur mainly in late night hours were reported to be coming from a window unit air conditioner.
OTHER SIGHTINGS IN THIS AREA:  Yes (reference the GCBRO database for Georgia, Chattahoochee County, August 1999). It was noted that Fort Benning, Georgia lies directly north (3 1/2 miles) of the witnesses home.

Below is Jeffrey Teagle's Complete Chattahoochee Bigfoot report which also appears on his own web site.

Subject:  Chattahoochee County, Georgia Bigfoot Investigation, October 2002

Eyewitness Information:
Female: 38 years old and Male: 15 years old, son
Chattahoochee County, Georgia

Equipment Used During Investigatoin:
  • Plaster of Paris and water
  • 35 mm camera
  • Stainless Steel tweezers
  • Ziplock bags
  • Latex gloves
History:
  • Female contacted the G.C.B.R.O. via web site on October 16, 2002 concerning recent disturbances of unknown nature to her personal property.  Disturbances included "something" following the victim along a wood line while walking in the evenings, sounds heard from the woods surrounding the victim's home while her son waited for the school bus  in dark morning hours, a vocalization sounding almost like a "whining dog" but not quite, smelly odors described as "rotten eggs" coming through a window air conditioning unit at night and property disturbances with a compost pile near the victims home (approximately 20 yards to the east of the home.)
  • Very large footprints and bent (arched) saplings (oaks) are pronounced throughout the resident's wooded property.
  • Hair specimens of an unknown nature are located approximately 6 1/2 to 8 feet on three trees near the front entrance of the mobile home.
  • An additional sighting has been reported for Chattahoochee County, George (Fort Benning).  Reference G.C.B.R.O. web site August 1999. It is noted that fort Benning lies directly north of the victims property approximately 3 1/2 miles.
Method of Investigation:

I. Potential hair samples

  • The G.C.B.R.O. visited and investigated the residence of Female and Family on October 19, 2002 from the hours of 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
  • Extensive investigations of the victims wooded property as well as outdoor recreational areas proved to be fruitful by the presence of hair samples, foot prints, and "territorial markers" were discovered throughout the victims wooded property.
  • Upon arrival and introduction, Female directed the G.C.B.R.O. representative to three oak trees that contained what appeared to be hair that is black in nature with possible follicles. With the use of latex gloves and sterile stainless tweezers, possible hair samples were removed from three different trees from the height of 6 1/2 to 8 feet in height. These samples were placed in a ziploc bag and mailed to G.C.B.R.O. to Mary Green for lab analyses.
Notes:   It was noted that the victim had three dogs, A black Lab Retriever. A black medium size mix, a small copper colored Chihuahua, and a black Chinese Chow Chow.

II.  Footprints

  • A two hour investigation of the victim's wooded property near the residence yielded many foot prints (totaling 19) that exceeded 12 inches in length.  Due to heavy rains one week prior the victim contacting the G.C.B.R.O. most prints were washed away by water. However one FAIR sampe remained hidden under  fallen leaves.
  • The leaves were carefully removed from a depressed area and covered with a nearby child's red wagon for future plaster casting at the end of the investigation.  The search for more strange anomalies continued and more prints were found over a two hour period.
Notes:  The family appeared to be visibly shaken by their experiences with noises and other strange happenings around the property over the last two weeks.  They now outwardly appear "scared to death" to venture into their wooded property alone.  Nothing leads me to believe that the tracks found on the property were created by any member of the family as a hoax. The tracks appear genuine and coincide with some plaster casts pictured on the G.C.B.R.O. web site.  Also the tracks appear to be of the "bent" or "curved" foot style measuring approximately 14 inches in length and 8 inches in width at the toes and 4 1/2 inches at the heel. Additionally soft hair protrudes off of some of the areas of the cast around the edges of the foot.

III Territorial Markers:

  • During the two hour investigation of foot prints, several bent saplings were discovered in the area approximately 300 yards in the woods near the victims residence.  What made them unique was the fact that each sapling was bent into the "fork" of another tree.
  • Additionally, small pieces of wood were arranged in a teepee formation in an entire 300 yard radius of the victim's home. The teepee formations were approximately 4  foot in diameter and 1 1/2 foot above the ground.
  • Heavy compressed areas of leaves were found in and near the markers and a plaster cast was taken of what appeared to be a knuckle print from a left hand. Closer examination revealed that it too has a very small hair specimen protruding from the edges as did the foot casting.
Notes:  The markers are located approximately a 100 yards from a deer feeder,  200 yards from a hanging pot bird feeder, (both containing corn and other wild life nutrients for birds and squirrels and a 100 yards from the family's compost pile which contains scraps of various vegetation, eggs, rotted meat, etc. Additionally it was noted that investigation of a 3 acre lake revealed no signs of habitation but may be a great water source for a large animal and may even provide fish of various types when hungry.

Conclusions:

  • Although bear are not common to this area of Georgia (reference to Georgia Fish and Wildlife Commission web site). Sometimes black bear do tend to wander into Chattahoochee County, Georgia.
  • However, based upon the potential hair samples, the hair color and length does not match any known bear dwelling in the State of Georgia in particular, Chattahoochee County. (Hair samples sent to Mary A. Green of the G.C.B.R.O.)
  •  Plaster casts taken at the scene do not proportionately  match photos of "black bear" casts pictured on various Internet web sites.
  • Territorial markers depicted on the G.C.B.R.O. web site and described by other G.C.B.R.O. members coincide with the territorial markers found on the victim's wooded property.
  • The property is remote and neighbors are far between. In the area where the foot casts was taken, there appears that whatever type of animal it is was heading north across a county road leading into another famly member's property. Follow-up investigations may permit the G.C.B.R.O./C.B.O. to venture into this unexplored area for additional investigations.
  • The property is most likely inhabited either permanently or temporarily by a large animal of some type.
