OBSERVED:
I was visiting friends. It was cold, in the high 20's. My friend was outside
chopping firewood when he came in and asked me and his wife to come out
to hear this weird loud "growl-scream" sound. It was on and off for a few
hours. I have never heard anything like it. I had goose bumps all over
and the hair on the back of my neck stood up. I was totally freaking out.
The
dogs would go to about 15 yards from the woods, their hair would stand
up, and they wouldn't get closer. I have never seen these dogs not enter
the woods at anytime if they got out of the house. These woods are thick
and usually swampy but the swamp had dried up due to several years of drought.
The
next morning, my friend and I took the dogs and went into the woods about
a quarter mile. We got to an area where a large dead water oak lay and
the dogs begin to wimper and their hair stood up again. There was no smell,
the ground was hard, covered with leaves, and we saw no tracks.
I
stay in touch with my friend and he has never heard that loud freaqy sound
again. We'll see if it happens again this winter.
ACTIVITIES OF WITNESS(ES): My buddy was outside chopping fire wood when he called his wife and I outside to hear the weird noise.
DESCRIPTION
OF CREATURE:
OTHER NOTES: My friend thinks it was a fox or other small animal. I told him that a fox does not make that loud a scary noise and no small animal I know of does. I described the sound to some friends of mine in Alabama who spend a lot of time hunting in the woods and they said they thought it could be a "big cat".
