Dear Ms. Mary,

Thank you for taking the time to try to ID this situation.  We do not know what it was and can't say for sure if the events are all related or have logical explanations, but can surely admit it did at times get intense.

My husband was the first one to hear it, late spring/early summer.  The dog had been acting up and he went outside to check things out.  He was standing next to the boat when something screamed at him from between where the boat and treeline is.  As he puts it "it backed me up".

I had fallen asleep on the recliner in the living room and he woke me up by kicking it.  I awoke to see him standing over me with the 22 rifle outstretched towards me and he had his mouser, all he said, was get up, and follow me.  I never heard it that night but he said it was not a bob cat or panther, but it was loud, never heard anything like it ever.  He was raised in South Florida and Mississippi, lived in Texas, Wyoming, Colorado, and California, spent most of his free time hunting & fishing in remote areas.  He could not compare the sound to anything.

The second time it was heard by all 3 of us, me, husband, and son.  It was starting to get dark and they were helping me feed all the animals when I heard it.  I shushed them up and said, "Listen, what is that?"

It did it again and my husband said, "That's it!  That's what I heard that night."

It was, as best as I can describe, as a argh sound and then it went into what we call a temper tantrum where it lasts for several seconds and changes pitch.  When it did that, my son went running into the house.  The dog outside went nuts.

The third time was closer and more intense.  We were going fishing early to the Atlantic and at 3:20 A.M. or so.  My husband told me to go ahead and get the feeding done.  As soon as I opened the front door and stepped out on to the deck, the dog started going off and the thing started screaming.  I backed into the house and yelled at my husband, "It's back!"

We grabbed the rifles and told our son to stay put.  We really wanted to see what it was.  (Had not even considered a bigfoot at that time.)  We stayed low and was hiding behind our truck listening to it "walking" and crunching, behind where the horse lounge ring was.  It never vocalized again once we were outside, but you could hear it stepping because of the crunching and snapping sounds on the ground.

Then it stopped moving but the dog was still going nuts and my husband did not want to leave the property until he knew it was gone, so he fired several shots into the ground and it moved behind an old parts truck near the woods and stopped.  He popped off several more rounds and you could hear it moving further and further into the woods.  We also both had flashlights but never picked up any eye shine.

I called Fish and Game on Monday and they tried to tell me it was a bob cat, coyote or owl.  "NOT!"  They told me that they could not come out to trap it unless they knew what they were trapping for.

A couple weeks later we bought a goat and kept it behind the house where the dog, pig, and chicken coop is.  This thing started coming around 2 to 4 times a week.  I bought a voice activated mini recorder with a mike and started setting it from around 11:00 P.M. to 4-4:30 A.M.  The recorder got several situations of the argh sound, crunching, snapping, dog going into a foaming frenzy to the point he had no bark.  This got really bad.  The tapes were heard by several people and they were just as puzzled as we were.

The Cookout was the real kicker.  Last Saturady of October, around 9:30 P.M. my husband had a good hot fire going, there were roughly a dozen of us being pretty loud and having a good time.  I heard it first over the noise we were making and yelled its back!  (I had kidded with my husband about it coming around when all the people were here because no one else had heard it other than on the tape.)

Everyone went silent and then it started that argh scream, temper tantrum.  XXXXXX, girlfriend, and XXXXXX were over by their car, parked by the ring, closest to it.  Me and the husband ran in the house for the guns and recorder and lights and then we ran over to where the ring is and listened to it moving around, again, once we got out there it never vocalized again.  Never saw eye shine with the lights.  Husband and XXXXXX (ex-XXXXXXX County deputy) tried to track it but it stayed ahead of them and when they would walk, it would walk.  When they would stop, so would it.  But they never saw it or eye shine.

Our neighbors 2 properties to the north had 2 situations.  Neighbor 3 properties to teh South lost (killed) 2 goats, neighbor to her South lost a dozen (goats).  I heard from a friend that a mile or so to the southwest, a couple had a dog killed, only the liver removed and their neighbor lost all their goats.  A woman's neighbor near Lake XXXXX lost 88 goats in one month andanothr woman, (my sons teachers) heard a scream 2 years ago, also the Lake area, and one of her neighbors also lost more goats.  Also was told by an acquaintance that her old Ag teacher lost several goats and he took his hunting beagles to track and several of the dogs were killed.  (Don't know all the details of that one.)

Two neighbor girls saw what they can only describe as the "Big Grey Thing" (on all fours) not a dog.  Another neighbor told my husband he found one strange track near his cow pen.

There's more, but my hand is getting tired (of writing).  Just an idea on how this all went.  Also 2 people at the cook out said that they heard it make that clacking sound that is on the tape as we were running in the house to get our stuff.  Neither I nor my husband has ever heard it making that sound in person, only on the recorder.

OTHER OTHER NOTES:   (1) The first thing that happened way before he (my husband)  got screamed at and before I saw the thing on all fours was that where the goat/chicken and pig are behind the house, was originally where we kept the horses when we first moved in. Like the first or second week after we moved in, the place was still very
heavily wooded, we were getting ready for bed and had just layed down when we
heard heavy running along the west side of the house from the south towards
the north, we thought for sure one of the horses got out, went running for
the front door expecting to see a loose horse and there was nothing there,
both horses were in there stalls, ancy, but there.

(2) And the woman heard what she thought was someone walking from the back woods (connects to my woods) up to behind her house late at night while she was sitting on her front deck having a smoke, scared her inside, never saw anything, she is also
the one who heard the growl.

(3)I think, maybe, this thing has been right up to my house before all this other stuff
started, I thought it was a huge rottweiler. I thought someone was messing
with my van because when you slide open the side door it would make a
grrrrrrr sound. I heard it while in my office, very early morning, when I
went to look, all I saw was the rear end of what I thought was a huge dog or
bear, but I never forgot about it because I thought it was sooo odd that a
dog would growl at me from outside my own home.  The window was closed but
the blinds were up.

(4) Christmas Eve we allowed our son to open one gift, a Sony
cassette.  He and my husband were in his room playing the game sitting on the
bed.  The bed leans up against the outside wall, window.  I was in the office
next to that room and I heard a strange sound.   It was the dog.   She was laying
on my sons bed against the window.  I had never heard her growl like that (dog
in the picture with the sticks) I got the you know what scared out of me
because the growl from the dog went into an all out frenzy.   My son started
screaming as so did my husband, she tried to go through the window.  By the
time my husband got outside, there was nothing there.

R - It's moving to the north a little bit more
T- Ya hear it?
J - (clears throat)
R - It's more to the north there, C.

Two letters from eyewitness concerning the recording
sent to me for identification purposes.  The eyewitness is very
concerned about what type of creature can be making these sounds, and has
asked that if anyone recognizes what type of creature it is, to please let her know.
(You may e-mail the GCBRO and we will pass on the information to the witness.  Please be advised that all the "normal and known" type creature's sounds known to man have already been eliminated by the witness in her search for the answer to the identity of same creature {such as emu, turkey, bob cat, etc}).
 

Dear XXXX, my name is XXX but I post under XXX. I had e-mailed you
several months back about baiting and your info was appreciated. Would you
please listen to a recording we have if I make a copy and mail it to you. I
have posted about it on the board and the activity we had in our area,
although it has never gotten as intense again as it had several months ago. I
was going to take the tape to a local zoo but I chickened out because it is
sooo odd. It is a click clacking sound that goes on for over 30 seconds and
whatever it is, you could hear it messing with the stuff on the side of the
house ( we had just gotten a baby pigmy goat and were being threatened by a
tropical storm and I bought a huge plastic box from Walmart to keep it in, in
the house, it had hay and of course goat mess, after the storm passed I put
it outside and threw some other junk in it to go to the dump with) this is
what we believe it was messing with. It is loud and very clear. It is not a
turkey. We do not know what it is. It also makes another sound that I have
recorded but it is not as clear and the dog barking is mixed in with the
sounds. The dog never barked during the click clacking episode (strange
because it would have been in his view) Sincerly, XXXXXXXXXXXX

Got a question, can't figure out  why the dog wasn't barking when the clacking sound was happenning?  He should of had a clear view. There was one night in
particular we were very concerned for the dog.   It was we call an "all
nighter".   We went out several times to shoot off the guns, 20 minutes later it
would be back. I have this on tape also. But the tape you have is the only
one that has the clacking sounds on it.
