DATE:    November 1993

TIME:     N/A

LOCATION:   Mineral County, Colorado

TERRAIN:    Wooded

OBSERVED:    I've sat on this for quite some time, but the more I think about it, the more I am convinced that what I actually saw was a Sasquatch. In November of 1993, I went on an Elk hunting trip to southern Colorado with my father. We stayed in a town called South Fork, which incidentally makes an appearance in the movie National Lampoon's Vacation. We stayed in some cabins in town, and every morning and evening we would drive up to a valley just north of South Fork, park our truck and walk to various spots to hunt. We were there for 8 days. The elevation that we hunted was from 8,000 to 12,000 feet and walking 40 yards was like running 100 yards to everyone in our group.

On one morning in particular, I had climbed up the mountainside on the west side of the valley and taken up a position in a rocky outcropping that afforded a good view of the area around me, taking wind direction into account as well. I was facing south towards New Mexico, and knew that the elk should be travelling from north to south for the winter, and this position would allow me to ambush them on both my left and right. Down below me in several areas were large open fields called "parks". The dimensions of these parks can be several hundred yards in length and width. They are the areas that you see elk standing in typical hunting shows.

It should be noted that on the day that we arrived, a herd of elk was staying in the area that we were to be hunting, but during the night moved south to an area where we did not have a license. At that point we knew we would only be hunting satellite bulls.

While I was sitting on that mountainside that morning, I thought that it was amazing that I could see the orange vests of other hunters on the mountains around me, some maybe a couple of miles away. Visibility was perhaps 20 miles to the horizon? Being from the southeastern US, I was in awe of that fact. While I was scanning the area around me, I took notice of an individual perhaps 600 to 800 yards away walking the length of a park along the edge of a stream near an aspen grove. I scoped the person, with safety on and finger off trigger of course, and noticed that they appeared to be dress in black from head to toe, did not have an orange vest nor a rifle, a pack or anything else. I watched this "person" walk from one end of the park to the other and disappear into the treeline.

As someone who lives at around 700 feet elevation, I personally found it exhausting to walk any distance, and I am in good physical condition. The person in black appeared to cover the length of that park as if it were a Sunday stroll.

Later when I met up with my dad, I described the person that I saw as "an idiot dressed in black who wasn't wearing orange during hunting season". It wasn't until a few years ago that I actually dredged up this memory and realized that what I was looking at that day was probably a Sasquatch. In retrospect, I find it an interesting coincidence that the direction of travel was south, toward the area where the main herd had gone on our first night. Coincidence? Who knows?

Activities of Witness:   Hunting Elk

Description of Creature:  Walked like a human. Plenty of body mass, very stout in appearance, even at that distance. Covered in black from head to toe, excluding an area around the eyes that made it appear as though the person was wearing a balaclava.  It was at least 10 degrees Farenheit.

Other Notes:    N/A

Additional Notes and or Follow up Comments Upon contact the witness had no additional information to add to this report.
