DATE:              June 1998

TIME:                10:00 A.M.

LOCATION:      Near Westcliffe, Colorado in Custer County

TERRAIN:         National Forest

OBSERVED:  My longtime friend Patrick and I set off to do a little fishing on Grape Creek.  The particular area we were in is on the backside of a small mountain reservoir.   We were probably a mile or so downstream, and probably another half mile or so away from the nearest road. The area is basically a canyon with a stream running through it full of dense pines and evergreens. The stream is about ten feet across, and bieng so early in the spring there was still a good 2 feet of snow on the ground. The elevation is only about 8400 feet, but there are 13000 foot peaks to the west and 10000 foot peaks to the east.

As my friend and I continued fishing down the stream we noticed some tracks that seemed out of place and oversized. Bieng that we were walking through boot high snow all the way down the stream and had seen no other human tracks, we immediately assumed a large mammal had gone through here. As we had been proceeding east and following the stream, these tracks went south directly across the stream. Upon closer inspection I realised what I was looking at.  My friend was also immediately drawn to the size and shape of these prints. I have watched many programs on Bigfoot, and in my mind these prints could not have been made by anything other than a Sasquatch.

My friend, who is one of the most skeptical people I know, also concluded what I had, we were looking at Bigfoot prints. The steps seemed simply that whatever had made them had walked right through the stream and straight up the side of a severely sloped hill coverevd in snow, however the only marking in the snow were of footprints going right up the side with no indications that this creature had any problems keeping it's footing or having slipped at all.

To this day when I mention this outing to my friend, he will quickly say how nuts it was, what we saw that day and then he quickly changes the subject, seemingly in denial, scared of what he saw.

ACTIVITIES OF WITNESS(ES):  Fishing

OTHER NOTES:    About 20 feet away we found some disgarded fish guts and blood in the snow, however I still assume these were left by some other fisherman.
