DATE: August 7, 1993
TIME: Early morning hours 2:00 am to 4:00 am
LOCATION: Strawberry, California, Toluomne County
TERRAIN:
National Forrest
OBSERVED:
My
family and I were staying at the lower camp ground at
Pinecrest
lake area. Meadow Lake I think it was called.
We
had been staying there for several weeks. During that
season
there had been an illness that had killed a large
part
of the deer population. They would be found by hikers
laying
in the woods in the Stanislaus Canyon area above
Strawberry.
Personally, we never saw any dead deer.
The
local store in Strawberry has always been a reporting
location
for Bigfoot sightings in the area and they keep a
running
count and board of the recent sightings.
This
is what we encountered while camping at the camp ground.
The
summer rush of campers was at an end, but we were staying on until we found
a rental home in the area to live in. While at the camp ground on the night
mentioned above, we were awakened by noise that at first I attributed to
cars
moving
down the high way 108 and the tires screeching around the curves.
The
timing between the sounds was intermitent like the curves would be laid
out
on the highway. The only problem we had with this sound was
that
it neither increased or decreased in volumne and no engine sounds.
We
continued to listen and thought maybe it could be deer calling or maybe
some
elk or something of that nature. The screams continued and occassionaly
sounded
like more than one location. We then began to wonder what could make a
scream like this and what lungs they must have as we both tried to imitate
the time of a total scream. This was never something we could do as the
screams we heard were longer than the two of us put together releasing
the air in our lungs in a roaring fashion. I would estimate 15 - 20 seconds
or more of one continuous release.
WE
related it to the song of a whale. This lasted well over 2 hours and we
finally drifted off to sleep. Several days later we went into the store
at Strawberry and was interested if anyone else had heard the sounds. NO
one else had reported any sounds, but, a couple of hikers had reported
seeing a large creature carrying 2 large deer one over each shoulder crossing
a small clearing in the Stanislaus River area. Thats when we attributed
the sounds we heard to crys of sorrow from the bigfoot at their concern
for the dead deer that riddled the area. This, in my opinion, would relate
to the health reasons for the local bigfoot, as I don't think they would
eat the dead carcasses. Cleanup duty!
Description of Creature: Large creature carrying two large deer, one over each shoulder
Activities of Witness: Witnesses were sleeping in a tent.
Other
Notes: I recently watched a program
about the bigfoot sightings and during the
program
they mentioned that the most sightings have taken place
upon
the ridges that run through mountain ranges. Well, the point of this
hearing
took place on the narrowist point from a ridge that runs east and west
between
the river canyons that I mention above. This makes me think that the
sounds
must have been bigfoot. I have heard other sounds recorded by
people
from bigfoot. Only one comes to mind and that is the gentleman that
sets
out the recording devices and returns to pick up the sound recordings.
At
this time I can't think of his name but he is on the internet.
There
is some more history that while living in California in Tuolomne county
and
Stanislaus
county for more than 40 years, that I have heard an Indian legend
of
the Tuolomnmites that reside there in the old mines. These beings are much
smaller
and more aggressive than the bigfoot.
When
I was very young my older brother had returned from a night out in the
country
around
Nights Ferry area, which at the time was sparsly populated.
He
came in and woke the whole house with excitement going on about what he
and his
freinds
had seen crossing a lonely stretch of road in that area. BIGFOOT!!!
This
occured in the mid 60s. There was also many strange lights that have been
seen
in this same area. He had also recalled at another time of some type
of militaristic
action
they had come upon once. The men were dressed in blue uniform type clothing
and carrying
weapons.
When they approached them, the uniformed men informed them that the area
was restricted and they must leave immeadiately. They did!
This
too happened in the 60s.
Other Other Notes: I now live in Montana and do not know if others have had any experiences since.
