OBSERVED: It was the summer of '74. There was seven of us present. I was 14 at the time. We decided to turn in after eating. It was so dark we could hardly see our hands outside of the glow of the small camp fire. There was six of us in the tent and one outside the tent. Our buddy outside the tent was too (large) to fit. Our buddy outside the tent started hearing things. He woke the rest of us up. We heard what sounded like spoons rattling in a glass, sounds that a spoon makes in a empty glass shaking back and forth. Then it started to sound like a bunch of running horses. The sound was coming from the south of the mountain because we came up from the west side. The only thing on the south side was more mountains, brush, and woods. There was nothing for miles and miles.
The more we listened, the more different sounds we heard. We didn't know what we were listening to. Whatever it was, we thought it would drag our buddy away from the camp. First we heard trees swinging with a whipping sound off the ground. Then we heard the screams of an animal that had the voice of a thousand creatures. Then we heard footsteps and rumbling in the ground, trees smashing and we felt the ground jump. We heard more screaming outside our tent. The creature stood probably four feet from out tent. We estimate he stood at least 15 feet tall. The creature was stepping on trees.
What
our buddy outside was hearing made him want to get in our tent in an emergency
because of the destruction and the direction that the creature was coming.
As we tried to control his fear before the creature got any closer, the
closer the creature came, the more we realized crying wasn't going to help.
We prayed because no one knew we were up there; no one. The creature
stood in front of our tent for 30 minutes to an hour screaming and hollering.
Sounded like he was eating something, choking on something, couldn't swallow,
couldn't breathe, made the noise of a thousand animals. You could
feel the weight of him rocking back and forth in front of our tent as his
feet gouged into the ground. He then just simply walked away. We don't
think the creature went very far, he was still there, we just don't know
where. We didn't stop to investigate anything that morning, we just
left as fast as we could thinking that at any time, he would return and
possibly capture us off of one of the trails coming off the mountains.
We ran as fast as we could, not paying attention to the steep and broken
ledges, simply feeling as though we were running for our lives.
