DATE:
August 10, 2000
TIME:
Noon
LOCATION:
Calaveras County, California
TERRAIN:
Steep Canyon with River at bottom of Canyon
OBSERVED:
Me and my backpacking partner were fishing the headwaters of the XXXXXX
river when my partner spotted a large White Creature on the ridge behind
us. It was about 7' or 8' tall and about 300 yards away. The creature would
watch us for a few minutes and then step behind a large boulder so that
we could not see him. He would wait about 30 seconds and then step back
into view and watch us. This went on for over a half hour before we lost
sight of him. There was no sounds made by the creature and no threatening
moves made by either party.
Activities of Witness:
We were on a backpacking trip and were fishing at the time of the encounter.
Description of Creature:
The creature stood upright on 2 legs and had big broad square shoulders.
He was 7'-8' tall and was solid white in color.
Other Notes:
It was a hot summer day and we were in the middle of no where. The canyon
is extremely steep & rough terrain and very remote. Later that night
while we were in our tent me heard large tree branches being snapped like
twigs about 50' away. I would estimate the branches to be about 3" to 4"
in diameter.
