TIME:

LOCATION:
St. Clair County, Alabama
TERRAIN:
Wooded
OBSERVED:
I decided to camp in the woods behind my house alone with my dog last night.
Before I had a chance to make my campfire, I heard 5 large splashes in
the creek. I heard several snapping sounds, like someone was snapping their
fingers really loud. I stood in total darkness for a minute, then
proceeded to light the campfire. All was good for several minutes, until
this over-powering smell blanketed the area. It made my dog act like I
have never seen him act before; a low growl and pacing back in forth in
front of me like he was protecting me from something. Then there was this
loud shrieking, howling, cry. I took it as a territorial "GET OUT OF MY
WOODS" scream. I immediately extinguished the fire and went back home.
ADDITIONAL THINGS:
N/A
DESCRIPTION OF CREATURE:
The woods were too thick to see any creature. There was just a stench like
I have never smelled before. If I had to liken it to anything it would
be a room full of rotten potatoes. Also, there was the noise it made which
was unlike anything I've ever heard. It wasn't a deer, coyote, or any type
of cat.
ACTIVITIES OF WITNESS:
Beginning to get the campsite ready.
OTHER NOTES:
N/A
HISTORICAL OR NEIGHBORING AREAS:
My wife's family has owned this land since
the 1800's. She says as far as she's known no one has ever been back in
the woods at night so there hasn't ever been any other instances like this
here.
ADDITIONAL NOTES AND-OR FOLLOW-UP COMMENTS: Upon contact the witness had no additional information to add to this report.
