DATE:    1/1/2011

TIME:     between 2:50-3:15 a.m.

LOCATION:   Etowah County, Alabama

TERRAIN:    wooded with cotton fields all around

OBSERVED:    I came home early one morning from a friend's house and was on the back porch petting my dogs. (I had only been home for a few minutes and had been having a weird, unsettling feeling ever since I stepped out of the car.) I was leaning against the house on the back porch steps, which makes the tree line outside your field of vision. I heard a loud sound coming from the left of the house. (Immediately my 8 month old blue heeler took off toward the side of the house going crazy. The other dog was in the yard and I could hear him barking wildly as well.) It sounded like it was within 50 yards. It started out high-pitched but would dip down to lower tones. The only way I could describe it would be the combination of a woman, baby, and animal screams. I know that sounds stupid but that's the only way I can describe it. It also had a sound like a kind of howl, with spit gurgling in its throats for a brief second. As it screamed I heard glimpses of all the things I just described. The scream itself lasted for a couple of seconds. I have never heard anything like that before and have lived by and been going into the woods my entire life. When I heard it I got goose bumps all over my body and immediately ran inside and jumped in bed. It took several minutes for my breathing and heart rate to get back to normal. It really did sound like something out of a horror movie.

Additional things: There is a small wooded area to the left of my house that gets wider as it runs to the back. Our backyard is approx.. an acre in size with the woods surrounding it to the left and running wider in the back. The woods are separated by a cotton field, then get bigger and eventually lead to the river. The entire surrounding community has scattered cotton fields, wooded areas areas, and foot hills all around. It supports a number of different animals. Ranging from rabbits and raccoons to fox, coyote, and deer). Which makes it possible (however small the possibility) to support larger animals as well. I have also found bedding areas within feet of our backyard fence that are circular in formation. At first I attributed them to deer. But the size of the bed seemed a little large to me. Also, the brush and baby trees pushed down for the bed seem a little thick to be done by deer. I do not hunt and would not call myself a nature expert. That's just my opinion. The bed markings seemed a little odd when I saw them but did not worry me until I heard the sounds. I plan to do further examinations and search the entire area for similar markings. There are plenty of deer in the area. I plan to find and compare what I saw with beds left by deer or other animals....Our backyard is enclosed with a dog-wire fence that stands about 5' high. Directly to the left of the house (where the dog house is located) is where I heard the sounds coming. There have been no other encounters in my county that I know of. I compare these things to "big foot" until I began reading your web site and researching on the internet. Then it started getting kinda creepy.

Activities of Witness:   Had been watching tv at a friends house. I work 3rd shift and am used to being up at 3 am, so I do not contribute lack of sleep to what happened. I was just as alert as someone would be in the middle of the day.

Description of Creature:  NO sighting. Just heard strange scream.

Other Notes:    N/A

Other (Informational or Encounter History in the General Area) Notes:    Not that I know of. I have noticed things in previous weeks but had no first hand contact until the scream was heard.

Additional Notes and or Follow up Comments N/A
