DATE:    11/??/99

TIME:     5:00 a.m.

LOCATION:  5 miles south of Cherokee, Colbert County, Alabama.

TERRAIN:   Wooded

OBSERVED:   My hunting buddy and I were hunting five miles south of Cherokee, Alabama. I was in my tree stand about 3/4 of a mile east of my hunting buddy. Between my tree stand and his is all open field. His tree stand is in the edge of some thick woods and right on the edge of Buzzard Roost Creek. Sometime after he got in his tree stand we heard a loud howling sound. Neither of us can associate it with any type animal known.

After he came out the woods about dinner time, he said he was in his stand when it started, and the only thing we could compare it to, was a howler monkey. It was loud where I was, 3/4 mile away. I told him that it made me nervous. He said, Made you nervous, you should have been down there with me, it was practically in my lap. He said it sounded as though it were about 50 yards away.

This was about 20 minutes before first light. The howling lasted about 10 minutes, but seemed like an hour. Neither of us saw any deer that day, I'm not sure if it means anything or not.

ACTIVITIES OF WITNESSES:    Sitting in tree stand waiting for day light.

DESCRIPTION OF CREATURE:

OTHER NOTES:

OTHER SIGHTINGS IN THIS AREA:  Not that we know of.
