OBSERVED: My son and I and a hunting buddy were riding 4-wheelers on a
friend's property.  It was the Saturday afternoon of Labor Day weekend.  We
topped a high ridge where you could see for a long distance across some
pastures and down a power line and stopped to look for deer.  About 500 to
600 yards down the power line, I spotted five dark colored animals moving
rapidly down the power line away from us.  The animal in front was obviously
larger than the other four.  My buddy said "wild hogs", but I said "NO, too
big and wide for that".  My binoculars were around my neck and I got them up
quickly and looked at the animals.  I was astonished to see what I at first
thought were big chimpanzees running on all fours.  Suddenly the big one in
front stopped, turned around and stood up and looked directly at us for a
second and then dropped back on all fours and ran extremely fast into the
woods to the left.  The others were catching up to its location and one was
passing it as the big one bolted to the woods and it turned sharply and followed.  The others all veered to the left towards the woods and they were all out of sight in a
split second.  When the big one stood up, it appeared to be about seven to
seven and a half feet tall, based on comparing it to the height of the weeds
growing on the power line there (which were about three feet high). My
hunting buddy and my son wanted to know what they were and I was afraid to
say, so I just said I didn't know, because I didn't want to be teased by the
guys in the hunting club.  We rode down the power line to where we had seen
them and looked for tracks but didn't find any.
 

ACTIVITIES OF WITNESS(ES):   Riding 4-wheelers
 

DESCRIPTION OF CREATURE:   All of the creatures were dark colored, almost black with a little gray on them in places.  The big one that turned and stood had gray on its
face and chest.  It was 7 to 7 1/2 ft tall.  The creatures were running very
fast along a power line road and doing probably 30 to 40 mph.  They were
going a lot faster than the speed of deer we spook there.  The smaller ones
had hair that looked just a little longer than chimpanzee hair and it was a
lot longer on their head and shoulders.  The larger one had longer and
coarser hair over its entire body and especially on the head and shoulders.,
 

OTHER NOTES:  Yes, we heard some screams and growls and footsteps in the thick pines about a half mile northwest of there during hunting season during the rut. One
person was scared off of his deer stand and wouldn't go back.  And something
kept pushing pine trees down across our 4-wheeler trails in that area.
