LOCATION:     Coffee County,  Alabama
                    (Possibly extreme southern Pike County, just north of Coffee County line).

TERRAIN:        Both a swampy and wooded area.
 

OBSERVED:      I received the story I leave here second hand from the person involved. I was told this story while attending Troy State University, main campus. The person that told me this was a fellow archaeology student. He told me the story one day after a archaeology club meeting in the spring of 1993.  We had been talking about Indian artifacts when  somehow the conversation turned to Bigfoot.

Said person had been out hunting, (I can't recall whether it had been a day during the winter months of 1992 or 93 or the spring of 93), in and around the area of the Whitewater Creek and its swamps. (If I remember correctly it was late afternoon.) He was not sure exactly which of the areas he was in at the time. He felt sure he was in northern Coffee Co.. (Its possible he may have been hunting just north of the Coffee Co. line in Pike Co.). At any rate I was told that as he hunted he was startled by a loud heavy thump upon the ground from behind him where he had just passed. Not knowing what to make of the sound he turned around. He said he was startled to find he was looking directly at a "youth bigfoot" as he called it just a few feet away. He had just passed under a large tree (which around here was probably an Oak) and he assumed he had apparently scared the creature from its perch somewhere up in the tree. The bigfoot stood there for a few seconds staring back and then ran away.

This person was startled to the point he said, that he did not even think of shooting at the creature. He described it as a "youth" as I noted before. He did not tell me an approx. height. I myself would figure about a 5 to 5 1/2 tall Bigfoot. He described it as quite hairy with thick hair. It was dark hair and had an ape like face kinda like a gorilla. He said that the creature appeared to be quite uneasy and afraid of him.

I was also told that after the event he did soon return to that area to hunt once again even hoping to see the bigfoot once more, but had not by the time he told me the story.
